AIIMS MBBS 2012

AIIMS MBBS Medical Entrance Exam 2012 conducted by All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), New Delhi, India for admission into MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery) program. School students who have completed Class 12th class or equivalent qualification from any recognized board of university can take AIIMS MBBS Medical Entrance Exam 2012.

AIIMS MBBS Medical Entrance Exam 2012 is All India Medical Entrance Examination for admission into Under Graduate (UG) Medical Courses. The entrance examination tests the candidates’ abilities in areas of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and General Knowledge. AIIMS MBBS Entrance Test takers are tested for knowledge of what they have studied till class 12th  standard and if they would be able to complete course work in medicine.

AIIMS – All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi is an autonomous medical university and research institution approved from University Grants Commission (UGC) and Medical Council of India (MCI) for conduct of different medical training programs.

AIIMS MBBS Medical Entrance Examination 2012 is one of the toughest examinations in the country for admission into MBBS Course. Entrance test conducted across India in major cities. It’s the institution every medical aspirants wish to join. Several thousand students appear for few hundred available seats in AIIMS MBBS program. Final admission offered on the basis of merit in AIIMS MBBS Medical Entrance Exam. The MBBS course offered by AIIMS New Delhi is fully residential program.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana 6 New All India Institutes of Medical Sciences are being established similar to AIIMS, New Delhi. Government of India has decided that the Academic Session in six New AIIMS at Bhopal, Patna, Jodhpur, Rishikesh, Raipur and Bhubaneswar will start in August 2012. The proposal is for an intake of 50 students for each of the institutions. The Ministry has deliberated that for the first academic session (2012-2013), selection for admission will be done through the same entrance examination through which candidates are selected for AIIMS New Delhi. The counselling and admission in Six New AIIMS will be done by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.

The Course of studies leading to the award of degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.) at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi and for the six AIIMS like institutions, shall last for a minimum of 5½ academic years including one year's compulsory internship.

AIIMS MBBS 2012 Application Form

A candidate seeking admission to the Entrance Examination is required to submit his/her application in the prescribed format available online with the Prospectus on www.aiimsexams.org. The cost of Application Form includes the fee for entrance examination which is non-refundable and no correspondence in this regard will be entertained. The candidate is required to go through the prospectus carefully and acquaint himself/herself with all requirements with regard to filling in of the online application form. AIIMS MBBS 2012 Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for AIIMS MBBS 2012 Entrance Exam mandates that the candidate should have passed the 12 th Class under the 10+2 Scheme/ Senior  School Certificate Examination or Intermediate Science (I.Sc.) or an equivalent examination of a recognised University/Board of any Indian State with English, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology.

Government of India has decided that the Academic Session in six New AIIMS at Bhopal, Patna, Jodhpur, Rishikesh, Raipur and Bhubaneswar will start in August 2012. The proposal is for an intake of 50 students for each of the institutions. For the first academic session (2012-2013), selection for admission will be done through the same entrance examination through which candidates are selected for AIIMS New Delhi. AIIMS MBBS 2012 Admission Procedure

1. Admitted candidates must join classes on 1st August, 2012. The admission of the candidates, who fail to join the Course by the date stipulated in the letter of intimation, shall automatically be cancelled and such seats shall then be offered to the candidates on the waiting list in order of merit in the same category.

2. Normally no candidate, Indian or Foreign National, will be admitted to the MBBS course beyond 30th September of the year of the admission. No candidate except foreign nationals will be admitted under any circumstances beyond 30th September of the year of admission. The candidates who are admitted after 30th September will be eligible for appearing in the first professional examination only with the next batch of students.

3. Candidates selected for admission to the MBBS course at the AIIMS after verification of their eligibility and offered admission should bring the following original certificates/testimonials/documents at the time of admission:

a. Certificate of having passed the 10+2 or equivalent examinations, showing the subject offered by him/her in the examination.
b. Certificate from the Board from which he/she passed the High School/Higher Secondary Examination, showing his/her date of birth.
c. Certificate/Mark sheet from the Board from which he/she passed the 10+2 or equivalent examination showing that he/she has secured 60% or more marks (50% in case of SC/ST/Orthopaedic Physically handicapped candidates) in aggregate in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
d. Migration Certificate from the University/Board last attended by him/her.
e. Applicable only to candidate belonging to Scheduled Caste/Tribe/OBC/OPH Category.:
  • SC/ST Certificate issued by the competent authority. Community should be clearly mentioned in the certificate.
  • OBC Certificate issued by the competent authority. The sub-caste should tally with the Central list of OBC. OBC candidates should not belong to Creamy layer. OBC certificate must be in the prescribed format.
  • Certificate from prescribed authority showing that he/she belongs to Orthopedic Physically Handicapped Category.

AIIMS MBBS 2012 Selection Procedure

1. With regards to the cut off marks, the governing bodies have declared that the candidate belonging to General category will be required to have 50% minimum cutoff marks, those belonging to OBC category will be required to have 45% minimum cutoff marks and those belonging to SC/ST will have to ensure atleast 40% minimum marks in the MBBS Entrance Examination. The same rule will apply for the six new AIIMS also. OPH candidates will be required to secure a minimum of 50% marks in case of General Category candidates, 45% for OBC & 40% for SC/ST candidates in the Entrance Examination.

2. Based on the result of the Competitive Entrance Examination, merit lists will be prepared.

3. Inter se merit of two or more candidates in the same category obtaining equal marks in the competitive entrance examination will be determined in order of preference as under:
(a) Candidates obtaining higher marks in Biology in the entrance examination.
(b) Candidates obtaining higher marks in Chemistry in the entrance examination.
(c) Candidates obtaining higher marks in Physics in the entrance examination.
(d) Candidates older in age to be preferred.

3. A similar procedure for selection will apply for the six new AIIMS where the number will be calculated for a total of 50 admissions for each.

4. The additional list of candidates who qualified for admission to MBBS courses in six new AIIMS, would be declared by 25th July. Roll numbers of candidates who qualify for admission to six new AIIMS will also be displayed on notice boards of six new AIIMS sites, published in leading newspapers and intimation sent to the applicant by speed / registered post. The result will also be available on www.mohfw.nic.in .

5. Medical Examination: The selected candidates will have to undergo medical examination by a Medical Board set up by the Institute, consisting of Faculty Members of the Institute. If, in the assessment of the Medical Board, a candidate is found medically unfit to be admitted to the course, then he/she will be rejected and not admitted and the decision of the Board shall be final. In that case, in his/her place next candidate in order of merit will be admitted.

AIIMS MBBS 2012 Admit Card

Admit card for MBBS Course is available now. Candidate can print Admit Card through their login. Downloadable Admit cards of all the eligible candidates will be hosted on website www.aiimsexams.org as per the schedule mentioned under ‘AT A GLANCE’. Candidates are advised to download their Admit Card from above website. It may please be noted that the Admit Cards will not be sent by post.

Note: i. No candidate will be allowed to enter the Examination Hall without a valid Admit Card.
         ii. No candidate will be allowed entry in the examination centre after 9:55 a.m.

AIIMS MBBS 2012 Exam Pattern

The Competitive Entrance Examination will be of 3½ hours duration and will have one paper consisting of 200 objective type (multiple choice and reason-assertion type) questions from Physics, Chemistry, Biology and General Knowledge.

The distribution of questions will be as given below:
  • Physics - 60 questions
  • Chemistry - 60 questions
  • Biology (Botany and Zoology) - 60 questions
  • General Knowledge - 20 questions

AIIMS MBBS 2012 Syllabus

The general standard of the Competitive Entrance Examination will be that of 12th class under the 10+2 Scheme/Intermediate Science. No syllabus for the examination has been prescribed by the Institute.

Incorrect answers will be given negative marks. Each correct answer will get a score of 1 mark and each incorrect answer will get a score of -1/3 (minus-one-third). No credit will be given for the questions not answered. More than one answer will be treated as wrong answer and negatively marked.

AIIMS MBBS 2012 Test Centres

The examination will be held at seventeen cities listed below. Candidates should indicate their 1st choice of centre in the application form. The centre of examination once opted will not be changed and any request for such a change will not be entertained. Therefore, the candidate should indicate his/her choice of centre with due care and thought. In case of any discrepancy and non availability of centre in the city as opted, the centre as allotted by AIIMS will be considered as final.
