How to Prepare?
The popular saying ‘well begun is half done’ goes well for doing any
other task and taking BITSAT exam is not an exception to this. Here are
few ground rules that will help you in preparing for BITSAT exams.
- Stick to the syllabus.
- Find quality books and study materials that provide you with sufficient number of multiple choice questions in variety.
- When buying an objective type book, keep in mind that it covers
the entire syllabus and contains variety of questions at various
difficulty levels.
- You can take the help of your seniors and subject matter experts to find good books on every subject.
- Practice questions 3 to 4 times from a good book before taking
the BITSAT test, this will enhance your memory recal,l and formulae and
logical application skills.
- If necessary find a subject matter expert to help you in your preparation.
- Its’ a wonderful combination if you are appearing for board exams
in the year of BITSAT. Your board exam preparation will help you in
preparing for BITSAT.
- The objective type questions that you will answer in BITSAT test
requires applications of formulae, and involves logic that you have
learnt up to 11th and 12th standard.
The Reasoning Section
The BITSAT syllabus is same as the syllabus for class 11th and 12th
standard examination. You may not have learnt Logical Reasoning at 11th
or 12th standard but you don’t need to worry about that. The questions
for this section are designed in such a way that a 12th standard
student, with some efforts, can crack it.
Reading a good book in
Reasoning (Verbal + Non Verbal) will help you in solving BITSAT
Reasoning section. The level of questions in English section will also
be in accordance with the standard of English that you have learnt at
school level.
The Test Day
Approach your test centre at least half an hour in advance before the start time of BITSAT test.
Before leaving for the test centre
- Make sure that you have kept all the necessary things with you like admission ticket, pen, pencil etc.
- Keep a water bottle to keep yourself afresh during exam.
- Have quality food which may keep you energetic till the exam lasts.
- Wear something comfortable.
- Stay calm, and relaxed, its’ just another examination.
The Test Begins
As soon as your test begins, your test administrator will brief you in short. You will be allotted a computer to take the test.
You are not allowed to use calculators or log tables in the test hall
and hence you require doing all the calculations manually. For doing
calculations you will be provided rough paper sheet at the test center.
Brush up your calculation skills since start so that you do not feel
difficulty on the test day.
During Exam
Writing examination at ease definitely adds to chances of success.
Following are the tips to make your BITSAT exam easier and stress free.
- Listen to your instructor patiently and cautiously.
- Read all the information flashed on the computer screen carefully.
- Give equal importance to each section and allow equal time to
each question, BITSAT is a competitive examination and answering every
single question counts.
- Don’t be upset, if you can not answer few questions, if you feel
headache or uneasiness, sip a little water or take few deep breaths.
This will help you relax.
- Every other second counts towards your performance. Don’t waste time in the questions that you can not answer.
- Do not loose confidence; attend to those questions first that
you can answer. Answering a question right within right time frame means
adding up to your confidence, performance and increasing chances in
merit.
- Stay calm and relaxed till the exam lasts; in any case you always have the second chance besides other avenues.
Staying relaxed is a habit,
which is nurtured, but can not be borrowed or practiced during three
hours exam. Make it a habit this will improve your performance in every
other exam. For further reading on stress management, Click Here.
The Right Approach
To start with you will be required to furnish some basic information
like your name, number etc and then you will be allowed to move to the
next section. In the next section, you will find basic information that
you need to keep in mind while taking the test; read these information
carefully. As you skip this section and move to the next section you
will find four subject categories
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry and
- English Proficiency and Logical Reasoning
Choose any one category which you like to attempt first and then move
to the next section. In the next section you will get questions for
your chosen section and four answers for each question. You have to
decide the best answer option for each question. 3 Marks will be awarded
for the right answer and 1 mark would be deducted for the wrong ones so
wild guess is not advisable.
Time management is very important. If you find that some question is
taking much time then simply skip it. You required attempting 150
questions in 180 minutes time. Utilizing every minute judiciously will
add to your success in the test.
The Right Approach
- Give equal importance to each 4 sections and divide your time in
right proportion for attempting questions in each section. (One right
answer will fetch you 3 marks).
- As Mathematics contains highest number of questions (45), allot it the maximum time in right proportion.
- English Proficiency and Logical Reasoning contains least no. of
questions (25), hence give this section least time but in right
proportion.
- Physics and Chemistry contains 40 questions, give these sections equal time in right proportion.

Problem Solving
- Read the question carefully. (Generally a question contains
certain set of rules, or variables, or logic, or analogies, or a set of
these.)
- If a question is theoretical type, think of the rules, or logic, or analogies involved in the statement.
- Think how the given statement(s) relates to some theory or law and if the relation gives some yields or the desired answer.
- Check if the statement(s) given relates to a theory which leads
to answer you require or further lead to some theory which in turn
yields desired answer.
- Write in short, all the given quantities on paper. For example
if a questions’ first line reads ‘Velocity of a projectile in x
direction is 6.5 m/s then write vx = 6.5 m/s, instead of writing full
statement Velocity of a Projectile in x direction is (vx) = 6.5 m/s.
- Write the quantity that has been asked.
- Think of the rules, and logic sets involved in the given question.
- Sketch a free hand diagram, if required.
- Find the relationship between given quantities, if they are related.
- Identify the constants that you require to establish relationship between given quantities.
- Think of the formulae or set of rules that you require relating the quantities (using required constant) in question.
- Observe if all the quantities (including constants) are in same
system of units, if not convert them using conversion rules. For
example; if time is expressed in hour and you are required to find
acceleration in m/s2 convert the hour into seconds.
- Now, establish the relationship among given quantities with the
help of some constant etc; solving it may give a direct answer required
or will give a quantity which may lead to the desired quantity.
- If you have established some equations with the given set of
quantities (using constants etc), then try to establish the relation
between equations which may give you the required results.
- Mark the correct answer on the computer screen. And move to the next question or next section as required.
Note: If you will finish the entire test in less than 180
minutes time without skipping any question; your machine will give you
12 more questions (maximum) to answer. You will be given the choices to
attempt these questions or skip.
The extra questions will be asked from
Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. This is the additional feature of
BITSAT Computer Based Test to score as per your ability.
