Career Option - 50-60% Marks in 12th Science

Whether you wish to change your stream, or you wish to make your career in science related field only, there are options for all! You just need to understand your aptitude, skills and interest. We at NNE have tried to give you some of the options that you can explore if you have scored between 50% and 60% in science stream.

BCA: If you want to churn your career in the field of computer applications and have a keen interest in computers, then you should go for Bachelor in Computer Applications (BCA).

• Course: Bachelor in Computer Applications (BCA) is a three year degree course concentrating primarily on programming languages.

BSc: If you are deeply interested in Science, you can pursue a Bachelors in Science Pass program. You can also apply for BSc (Hons) like Botany, Zoology and Chemistry as cut-offs vary from year to year and if you have a 60% you can get through some of the colleges like Acharya Narendra Dev College, Deen Dayal Updahyay College and Kalindi College all under Delhi University.

• Eligibility: 10+2 in Science stream.For BSc (Pass) the subjects that you can opt for are Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Life Sciences and Environmental Studies. Most colleges across India offer this program.
  

• Scope:  A BSc degree will give you scope to join a B Ed course later which will help you pursue a teaching profession. While doing your BSc, you can also pursue a computer course from some of the private institutes like NIIT or APTECH. BBA: Did you know that even if you come from the science stream, you can pursue a Bachelor in Business of Bachelor Admission (BBA), if you have Mathematics and English as core subjects?

• Course: It is a three year degree course which is designed to impart management education and inculcate entrepreneurship skills in a student.

B.Com: If you feel science is no longer your cup of tea and wish to do something else, you can also do a BCom Pass from any university.

B.Tech/BE: Engineering is one of the sought after careers in India today. Even if you have scored something between 50% and 60%, engineering is still a lucrative option for you. You can appear for all the engineering entrance exams both state level and at the national level for admission to BTech programs.

National level exams include IIT-JEE, AIEEE, and NATA. Institutes like BITS Pilani, BIT Ranchi, NITIE Mumbai also conduct entrance exams for admission to various engineering programs.

B.Arch: If you feel that you have a great imagination, ability to visualize things and you are good at drawing, you can pursue a course in architecture. Bachelor in Architecture is a 5 year long undergraduate course.

• Eligibility: For admission to most architectural colleges, the eligibility is 50 percent marks in HSC or equivalent, with physics, chemistry and maths as compulsory subjects but you need to clear the entrance exam as well. Examinations like AIEEE (All Indian Engineering Entrance Examination) and NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) apart from university level exams are conducted for admission to the B.Arch program. MBBS: If life sciences and study of the human body interests you, then MBBS is definitely one of the best options for you. You can pursue a degree in medicine to become a qualified doctor.

• Eligibility: 10+2 with Biology or Life Sciences as one of the core subjects. You have to appear for entrance exams for admission to MBBS programs in medicine colleges across India. BSC Nursing: Do you have patience? Do you believe in hard work? Are you organized and good in multi-tasking? Then, BSc Nursing would be a good option for you. It provides basic knowledge about nursing, first-aid and midwifery. You will be trained in all the theoretical as well as practical aspects of nursing. After completing the course you can join health institutes, medical colleges or private nursing homes as trained and certified nurses.

BSc Anthropology: Have you ever thought about studying the socio-cultural development of humans? Armed with a science background you can pursue a course in anthropology which traces the biological and the socio-cultural evolution of humans right from their origin.

• Eligibility: 10+2 with Biology as one of your core subjects. After completing your higher studies in anthropology, you can work as a curator, urban planner, tour guide, culture resource manager or work as a research scholar. International organizations like UNESCO, WHO and UNICEF also look for people with anthropology background. B Pharma: B Pharma is one of the important options for students who have done 10+2 in science. B Pharma is usually a 4 years degree course and students who complete B Pharma can register themselves as pharmacist.

After completing the course, you can work as pharmacist, drug inspector, drug therapist, health inspector, or as a drug technician.

BSc Occupational Therapy: If you love handling machines and equipments, if you have a logical and a scientific bent of mind, another relatively new option that you can explore is BSc Occupational Therapy (BOT). You can work with patients who suffer from orthopedic, neurological and psychological/psychiatric disorders.

BSc Physical Therapy: Bachelor of Physiotherapy (B.P.T) prepares a student for the practice of physiotherapy. The program is designed to integrate cognitive, psychomotor and interpersonal skills important to the development of a competent clinician.

• Eligibility: 10+2 or equivalent thereto, with 50% or more marks in the aggregate of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English Core. BA English: If you have always loved English Literature and Hamlet or Macbeth has fascinated you or you are transported to a the world ‘of golden daffodils’  then you can opt for English Hons, even if you've pursued science in 10+2.

• Eligibility: Most colleges hold entrance examinations for admission to BA English Hons course. A degree in English will open up opportunities of a teacher, lecturer and even that of a journalist.

Mass Communication/Journalism: If you have a flair for writing and do not wish to continue with commerce any longer, then a course in mass communication would be just the right one for you. A mass communication degree from any reputed and recognized institute will enable you to achieve your goal. You can specialize in print journalism, advertising, radio journalism or television journalism. You can work as a reporter, copyeditor, editor, producer or journalist.
