Career Option - 60 to 80 Percent in 12th Science


If you are expecting a score between 60% and 80% in science stream at the 10+2 level, then you can explore some of the following options at the undergraduate level.

BSc (Hons) : If you are deeply interested in pursuing a career in academics, BSc (Hons) in subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Zoology or Botany will help you do just that. Most of the Indian universities offer BSc (Hons) to students who have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology.
  • Eligibility: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology or Computer Science.
  • Scope:  You can further your prospects by doing a masters degree and then moving on to research and working as a junior research fellow in any reputed research institute. You can also pursue a career as a lecturer in any university or get jobs in chemical industry, pharmaceutical industry, or in government organizations like ONGC. For details, Click Here.

BTech/BE:
Engineering is one of the sought after careers in India today. Even if you have scored something between 50% and 60%, engineering is still a lucrative option for you. You can appear for all the engineering entrance exams both at the state level and at the national level for admission to BTech programs. National level exams include IIT-JEE, AIEEE, and NATA. Institutes like BITS Pilani, BIT Ranchi, NITIE Mumbai also conduct entrance exams for admission to various engineering programs.

MBBS / BDS
: If life sciences and the study of the human body interests you, then MBBS is definitely one of the best options for you. You can pursue a degree in medicine to become a qualified doctor.
  • Eligibility: 10+2 with Biology or Life Sciences as one of the core subjects. Entrance exams are held for MBBS/BDS programs in various medical colleges across India. Some of the important MBBS entrance exams are AIPMT, JIPMER, AIMMS medical entrance test and AFMC. BSc Anthropology:
Have you ever thought about studying the socio-cultural development of humans? Armed with a science background you can pursue a course in anthropology which traces the biological and the socio-cultural evolution of humans right from their origin.
  • Eligibility: 10+2 with Biology as one of your core subjects
  • Scope: After completing your higher studies in anthropology, you can work as a curator, urban planner, tour guide, culture resource manager or work as a research scholar. International organizations like UNESCO, WHO and UNICEF also look for people with anthropology background. BCA
: If you want to churn your career in the field of computer applications and have a keen interest in computers, then you should go for Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA).
  • Course: Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) is a three year degree course concentrating primarily on programming languages.
  • Eligibility: 10+2 in any stream with Mathematics and English as core subjects. Entrance tests are conducted in individual colleges for admission to BCA. You can further your career and do a MCA after your BCA to be at par with BTech degree holders. For details, Click Here.

BA / BSc Economics
: A BA or BSc Economics is one of the lucrative degrees in India today. While most of the colleges across India offer a Bachelors degree in Economics, some give a BA degree, some offer a BSc degree. Universities like the University of Delhi offer a BA degree while others like the University of Mumbai and the University of Calcutta offer a BSc degree.
  • Course: Economics is one of the sought after courses in India today. A degree in Economics can open up opportunities in investment firms, public sector undertakings, government enterprises and NGOs. You should do your post graduation to improve your career prospects and even take up research options in government organizations or join as a lecturer in a university or college. If you have a knack for writing you can also work as business or an economic writer in business journals and newspapers.
  • Eligibility: 10+2 with mathematics and English as core subjects. Some universities hold entrance exams where concepts of Mathematics and English are tested for admission to BSc Economics.

B.Sc.(H) Computer Science

As a science student you can also pursue a BSc in Computer Science. You can increase your chances of placement by pursuing a higher degree (MSc in Computer Science) which would open various opportunities in the IT sector, banks, and even research options.
  • Eligibility: 10+2  from any stream with 60% or more marks in Mathematics and a  55% or more marks in aggregate of four subjects including mathematics. For details, Clcik Here.

BSc Applied Physical Sciences
: You can opt for Bachelors in Applied Sciences with specialization either in Computer Science, Electronics, Environmental Science or Industrial Chemistry if you have a science background at the 10+2 level. You can pursue higher studies to find placement opportunities in software or hardware industries or work as a conservationalist or environmentalist. University of Delhi and Carmel College Thrissur are some of the colleges offering courses in BSc Applied Sciences.
  • Eligibility: 10+2 with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry /Computer Science

B Pharma
: B Pharma is one of the important options for students who have done 10+2 in science. B Pharma is usually a 4 years degree course and students who complete B Pharma can register themselves as pharmacist.
  • Scope: After completing the course, you can work as pharmacist, drug inspector, drug therapist, health inspector, or as a drug technician.
  • Eligibility: 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Biology as core subjects. Some of the important institutes offering courses in B Pharma are Delhi Institute of Pharmaceutical Science & Research, Birla Institute of Technology, Ranchi, Jadavpur University, and College of Pharmacy Science, Mohud, Berhampur. BBA:
Did you know that even if you come from the science stream, you can do your Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA), if you have Mathematics and English as core subjects?
  • Course: It is a three year degree course which is designed to impart management education and inculcate entrepreneurship skills in a student.
  • Eligibility: 10+2 from any stream if you have Mathematics and English as core subjects with a minimum aggregate of 50%. You need to sit for entrance exams conducted by different colleges offering BBA program.

BA English
: If you have always loved English and you are fond of reading Shakespeare and Wordsworth, then you can pursue a course in English Hons, even if you have had done 10+2 in science.
  • Eligibility: Most colleges hold entrance examinations for admission to BA English Hons course. A degree in English will open up opportunities of a teacher, lecturer and even that of a journalist.

Mass Communication/Journalism:
If you have a flair for writing and do not wish to continue with commerce any longer, then a course in mass communication would be just the right one for you. A mass communication degree from any reputed and recognized institute will enable you to achieve your goal. You can specialize in print journalism, advertising, radio journalism or television journalism. You can work as a reporter, copyeditor, editor, producer or journalist.
  • Eligibility: A student should have passed 10+2 from any stream. Entrance tests are conducted for admission to Mass Communication programs. Some of the important universities offering bachelors degree in mass communication or journalism courses are IP University, Delhi University, Calcutta University, and Mumbai University.

    AICTE means All India Council for Technical Education. Does it mean all technical courses such as B.Tech, M.Tech, Phd in Engineering need to be AICTE approved? If any of the above course is only UGC approved, will have same validation similar to AICTE approved course? Many Industries such as Tata Motors do not accept UGC approved degrees? They accept only AICTE approved degrees. How we can give them the justification ? Please reply.
