Naviks as a Career Option

A coast guard is a national organization responsible for various services at sea. During the time of war, coast guards are responsible for the defense of the harbour, maintaining the security of the port, naval counter intelligence and patrolling of the coastal areas.

The Indian Coast Guard is the fourth service created to guard Republic of India's vast coastline. It was created on 18 August 1978 as an independent entity as per the Coast Guard Act. The Indian Coast Guard is part of the armed forces of India and is not a part of the Indian Paramilitary Forces.

The coast guard works closely with the Indian navy and the Customs Department of India. India's coast guard has a large number of fast craft including hovercrafts and hydrofoils. They patrol the seas and river mouths. They also patrol lakes in Kashmir bordering the People's Republic of China.

It offers exciting career prospects in the field of navik (general duty/domestic branch/yantriks). The life as a Coast Guard personal is a happy mix of many things: hard work, professionalism, risk and adventure. There is also the satisfaction of being involved in the nation’s defense.

Thus, career in the Coast Guard cannot be measured in financial terms only. Good pay and abundant rewards are supplemented by a constantly improving job satisfying versatile career difficult to match in civil life.
