Business Management

Business Management can be defined as the process of managing and supervising the business & operations of a company or organization. Here, keeping into account the past facts and figures related to the company’s operations, the new business strategies are formed.

To be a successful manager, one needs skills in decision-making, financial analysis, and interpersonal relationships. Also one should have leadership skills and the ability to apply these skills in a context of constraints, opportunities, and alternatives.

Many universities offer programs in management education both at undergraduate and postgraduate level. At postgraduate level, MBA (Master of Business Administration) is one of the most sought-after programs of two years duration.

The purpose of an MBA education is to provide training in the theory and practice of business management. Professional management programs are based on the premise that people can learn to manage all types of business situations more effectively.

MBA programs not only help the students develop skills that are highly valued by many employers, but also present a theoretical context for solving many business problems. Apart from MBA program one can also pursue Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM).

Business Management Eligibility Criteria

Generally for undergraduate course like Bachelor of Business Management (BBM), Bachelor of Business administration (BBA) & Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS), universities ask for 10 2/Intermediate or equivalent qualification. Here, some universities do prefer aspirants with Maths/Commerce background.

Similarly for MBA, an aspirant should be a bachelor's degree holder (10 2 3 of pattern) in any discipline from a recognized university with at least 50 % marks in aggregate.

In case of SC/ST/OBC the minimum mark can be 45%. Students are selected through entrance examination. Besides most institutes conducts their own tests followed by group discussion and personal interview.

Business Management Skills and Attributes

An outgoing, friendly personality, ability to handle people, ability to overcome pressure, ability to handle deadlines, excellent communication skills & leadership skills are necessary to be an effective manager. One should be a great team player and a source of inspiration and motivation to the subordinates.

Business Management Job Prospects

With the era of liberalization, privatization, & globalization (LPG), numerous opportunities have been lined up for effective managers. More and more MNCs coming up in India and more and more Indian companies going for joint ventures abroad, this all has resulted in a lucrative career option for those qualified in running and managing organizations.

Along with the need for highly skilled professionals in this field, there has always been a great demand for other allied key professionals like marketing mangers, financial managers, Strategic mangers, operations managers and Human Resource managers.

Business Management Pay Package

Thanks to the increased business expansion and globalization, the status of management professionals has become very lucrative. Depending on your qualification and experience, one can expect to be paid well in this hot career option.

As a trainee, one can start with a salary of Rs.8000-Rs.12000/-. One can command a higher salary as the experience raises, Generally MNCs and private companies pay higher salary as compared government departments/organizations.
