India, a big transforming country in the world, encourages every country to do business with it. With the globalization of Indian economy, more and more MNCs coming to India and more and more Indian companies are going for joint ventures abroad.

This has resulted enormous scope for foreign trade professional to find jobs. Many MNCs are attracted towards India’s liberalized economic policies. Hence, an education in the field of foreign trade holds an elite place in India.

Consequently, a need for skilled personnel in the stream of international trade is increasing rapidly. Moreover, global career opportunities are also abundant for those pursuing courses in foreign trade and international business.

Foreign Trade Eligibility Criteria

Most of the universities offer education in international businesses and foreign trade at post graduate level, but still universities like Jamia do offer Bachelor of International Business and Finance (BIBF) at undergraduate level too.

Generally for undergraduate courses, the eligibility is 10+2 with 50% marks and for Masters in International Business and foreign trade, the aspirant must be at least a graduate preferably in commerce.

Students are selected through entrance examination. Besides most institutes conducts their own tests followed by group discussion and personal interview.

Foreign Trade Skills & Attributes

Ability to handle pressure, ability to handle deadlines, excellent communication skills in addition to leadership skills are necessary to be an effective manager in this field.

Foreign Trade Job Prospects

With India, playing a significant role in international business scenario & tremendous expansion in trade activities, the, job opportunities are plenty in this field. Professionals are employed in buying houses; export units and the international departments of multinational companies across all levels. There is a great demand for Indian professionals. Besides, there is always good scope for those who desire to launch their own export units, but they are advised to gain enough experience before going for such a venture. For those desirous of securing government jobs, there are enormous employment opportunities in regulatory bodies like the STC and the MMTC too.

Foreign Trade Pay Package

Over the years, the status of specialized professionals in the field of foreign trade has become very lucrative. Depending on one’s qualification and experience, one can expect to be paid well in this hot career option. As a trainee, one can start with a salary of Rs.8000-Rs.10000. one can command a higher salary as the experiences raises, Generally MNCs and private companies pay higher.
