AAO - Assistant Administrative Officer


With the ever- growing role of service industry in over all economic development of India, thousands of job opportunities are up for grabs for qualified professionals in this field.

To cater to the demand for skilled professionals, Life Insurance Corporation of India conducts a competitive examination for recruiting personals for the post of Assistant Administrative Officers.

This examination is held usually once a year. The advertisement is placed in all the leading newspapers during the months of March/April.

AAO Eligibility Criteria


Age - A minimum of 21 years and a maximum of 30 years as on 1 April of the year of the examination. Upper age is relaxable for SC/ST, OBC, persons from Short service Commission, and employees of the Life Insurance Corporation etc. There are some other categories which also enjoy relaxation in age limit.

Educational Qualifications - A degree in graduation from any of the recognized universities of India.

Skills and Attributes - The test is designed to evaluate the linguistic proficiency in English, numerical ability, reasoning ability and knowledge of current affairs.

Recruitment Procedure - Recruitment is through two tier examination. The first part comprises of a written examination where as the second part consists of personality test for candidates who qualify the written examination.

AAO Written Exam Pattern


Paper I (Multiple Choice Questions)

  • Reasoning Ability (Bilingual)
  • General Knowledge and Current Affairs (Bilingual)
  • Numerical Ability (Bilingual)
  • English Language with special emphasis on grammar and vocabulary
Paper II (Descriptive Nature)
  • Test on Essay (can be written in Hindi or English)
  • Précis and Comprehension in English
The second part comprises of an interview cum personality test, for those candidates who have cleared the written examination.

AAO Job Prospects


Indian insurance industry has different department which needs Assistant Administrative officers to perform various tasks. The main work areas are:

AAOs can select any of the areas from Administration, Development and Accounts. While the AAOs (Administration) manage policy making, policy claims up to certain limit, inspecting clauses and details, filing official returns and statements to higher regional offices etc.

The Development AAOs is concerned with marketing and procurement of business, meeting prospective clients, endorsing the policies and receiving contracts. The Accounts AAOs manage the funds including incomes and expenses of the corporation.

AAO Pay Package


After being selected in the examination the candidate is appointed as Assistant Administrative Officer in class I grade in LIC with a pay–scale of Rs.8000-12500 per month.

    This is a very interesting job.I guess if you have a degree for a job like that you can apply to NRIOL to work with insurances and stuff like that.
