Career in Landscape Designing

Landscape designing is one of the specialized fields of study where students are taught how make the landscape functional, beautiful and compatible with the surrounding environment. A landscaper architect or designer decides the location of buildings, roads, walkways, gardens, even the arrangement of trees, flower-beds, fountains etc. keeping in mind the conservation of natural resources and history of the area.

The controlling of urban problems like excess traffic and pollution also comes within the ambit of landscape designing. Hence it may even involve regulating traffic movement and redesigning traffic ways. While it is developing its own niche in India, Landscape designers are also in considerable demand in the Middle and the Far East.

However, a number of excellent landscape designers are self-taught. Armed with excellent gardening skills and some knowledge of horticulture, they proceeded to experiment with small home gardens before venturing out on more ambitious projects. But in such cases, a great deal of trial and error is involved.
