The Indian Statistical Service and the Indian Economic Service are central government services and offer very attractive openings to those who have a keen interest to be a part of the Indian economic policy formulation team. Planning and preparing well in advance, an aspirant might enter these services by taking the Indian Economic Service (IES) or the Indian Statistical Service (ISS) examination. The UPSC conducts the Indian Economic/Statistical Services Examination in the month of November to recruit officers for the Indian Statistical Service (ISS) and Indian Economic Service (IES). Candidates who successfully pass this examination are placed in the planning commission, planning board, ministry of economic affairs, national sample survey and other allied offices where specialists in economics and statistics are required.
