Christ College, Bangalore is the brain child of Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara, the founder of CMI congregation. This is a minority Christian educational institution for higher education. Although the institute was initially meant for minority Christian students but with the passage of time it emerged as an institute for students of all sections of the society. Students of all castes, religions, creeds and languages are encouraged to be part of this temple of learning.
The college has been affiliated to Bangalore University, one of the largest State Universities in India. Within a period of four decades, Christ College has become the most preferred college for higher education in the city of Bangalore. It has achieved the rare distinction to be the first college in Karnataka to be accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), UGC for quality education. It has been reaccredited with A+ in 2005. UGC has also identified it as an Institution with Potential for Excellence.
Today, Christ College finds place in the top 10 commerce colleges in the country. The commerce department was established in 1969 and since its inception it has been offering B.Com programs. In the recent years the department is also offering few professional courses viz. B.Com (Professional) and B.Com (Tourism and Travel).
Courses Offered
Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com):- The three-year regular degree in Commerce (B. Com) was started in 1969. Presently, the department has about 1100 students. The course follows the semester pattern of examination.
B.Com (Professional):- The Department of Professional Studies (Career Advancement) has introduced an innovative and rewarding program of professional competency in commerce and management. B.Com (Professional) is a high profile undergraduate program aimed to creating enhanced competence of career positioning tied up with opportunity to become a global accounting and management professional.
B.Com Tourism and Travel Program:- The B.Com Tourism and Travel Program is an intensive and comprehensive program spread over three years. With a strong foundation in commerce studies, the course specializes in tourism and travel management. Christ College offers a unique combination by offering Hotel Management as a separate value addition subject in all three years.
Eligibility for above courses:- A pass in PUC (10+2) or equivalent is the minimum eligibility for admission.
