Madras Christian College, Chennai was established in 1837 as a school for secondary education. But with the passage of time it grew in to a full fledged college for higher education & research and later gained the autonomous status from the UGC. It has entered into the 171st year of glorious service to the Nation by providing quality education to the citizens. Many dedicated Indian teachers as well as generations of brilliant students contribute to its success story.

Madras Christian College, owing to its academic excellence, has been rated with A+ (equivalent to 90-95%) grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The college also finds place in the list pf top ten commerce colleges in the country according to India Today survey 2007. 

The Department of Commerce was established in 1969 and offers a comprehensive, contemporary and multi disciplinary curriculum structured to equip the students with the knowledge, skills and tools needed to make them competitive in the global economic environment. The Department also offers B.Com (Vocational) course focusing on Marketing, Advertising and Salesmanship. Students will be exposed to "on the job" training session for hands on experience in addition to project work.
