The Asian Indian population had risen more than two-fold in 2000, growing to 1.6 million or 0.6 percent of the total US population from 815,447 or 0.3 percent of the total population in 1990.


 
The Indian population in the US has recorded a phenomenal growth of 105.87 percent in the past decade, the highest among all Asian origin groups, according to the US Census Bureau.
