Candidates seeking admission to any of the above institutes for a Ph.D. Programme in Physics or Theoretical Computer Science may appear for the JEST. The question paper is common for all candidates irrespective of qualification. The syllabus for JEST Physics is the standard M.Sc. Physics syllabus. In particular, it presumes that you have taken basic courses in Mathematical Physics, Classical Mechanics, Electromagnetic Theory, Quantum Mechanics, Statistical Mechanics and some special subjects such as Condensed Matter Physics, Electronics, and Nuclear Physics etc. Note: Qualifying in JEST does not entitle an applicant to get a Research Fellowship. Using the JEST results, each institute will call a limited number of candidates for its further selection procedure depending on its requirements. All selected candidates will receive Research Fellowship from the respective institutes.
