The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) is one of the premier institutions for study and research in the field of Pharmaceutical sciences in the country. The institute is a centre of excellence for higher education, research and development in pharmaceutical sciences and is the first Institute of its kind in the country. Owing to its excellent performance in pharmaceutical field the Government of India declared it as an Institute of National Importance by an Act of the Parliament. The Institute is a member of the Association of Indian Universities.

The Institute admits students for the M.S. (Pharm.), M.Pharm. M.Tech. (Pharm.), M.B.A. (Pharm.) and Ph.D. programmes in its various disciplines of pharmaceutical sciences and management every year based on a written entrance test generally held in the month of June. Candidates having valid GATE/NET card also eligible for admission to the above courses.

The NIPER- SAS Nagar (Punjab) now conducts a Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for admission to M.S. (Pharm.), M.Pharm.; M.Tech. (Pharm.), M.B.A. (Pharm.) offered at NIPER - SAS Nagar along with other created NIPERs at Ahmedabad, Hajipur, Hyderabad and Kolklata.  

The four new NIPERs are located at the following locations which have been established with the help of mentor Institutes:-  

1. Ahmedabad (Mentor Institute- B. V. Patel Pharmaceutical Education and Research Development (PERD) Centre)



2. Hajipur (Mentor Institute- Rajendra Memorial Research Institute of Medical Sciences)



3. Hyderabad (Mentor Institute- Indian Institute of Chemical Technology)



4. Kolkata (Mentor Institute- Indian Institute of Chemical Biology).
