
After 1947, the Government of independent India focused on the development of indigenous science and technology. As a technology base was being created, it became clear that the country needed to simultaneously augment management talent and resources. A response that lead to the creation of the Indian Institutes of Management in the country. The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore was established in 1973.
The Institute is spread over 100 acre land and its all stone architecture and landscaped gardens offers an ideal environment for higher education and learning.
The Government of India established the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B), one of the illustrious among B-Schools in 1973 as an autonomous body. IIMB was founded and directed by Prof. N. S. Ramaswamy, who was later awarded Padmabhushan.
ProgramsIIM-B imparts excellent management education at postgraduate, doctoral and executive level. Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B) offers two years Postgraduate Programme in Management (PGP), Post-Graduate Programme in Software Enterprise Management, exclusively offered by the IIM-B, Post Graduate Programme in Public Policy & Management and Executive Post Graduate Programme (E-PGP).
Doctoral and executive programmes are also offered at IIM-B. All these programmes have been designed to provide world-class interdisciplinary training in all areas of business management and public policy.
Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (E-PGP) is a one-year programme offered by the IIM-B, especially for aspirants at senior management levels. Admission to this programme is offered to candidates having valid Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) score. Academic background, academic and career related achievements and work experience is taken into consideration that is followed by an interview. This programme is completely residential in nature.

AdmissionAdmission to the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B) is offered through the Common Admission Test (CAT), conducted usually on third Sunday of November, followed by the Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI). Academic background and work experience in the relevant field is also taken into account for admission to courses offered by the IIM-B.
Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore has signed partnership with more than 86 business schools and universities across the Globe for student exchange programme.
The IIM-B, Lancaster University (UK), McGill University (Canada), INSEAD (France) and Consortium of Japanese schools jointly offer International Masters Programme in Practicing Management (IMPM), especially designed for experienced managers.
