Indian Institute of Management (IIM Calcutta)
TheIndian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIM-C)came into existence in November 1961, the oldest among theIIMfamily.
TheIIM-Cwas established in active alliance withAlfred P. Sloan School of Management (MIT), TheGovernment of West Bengal,The FordFoundationandIndian industry.
The foundation stone of theIndian Institute of Management, Calcuttawas laid down by the then Dy. Prime MinisterMorarji Desaion December 1968.IIM-Ccame to its present site in 1975.
The IIM-C offers five major teaching programs namely Post Graduate Program in Management (PGDM), Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Aided Management (PGDCM), Post Graduate Program for Executives (PGPEX), Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM) and Fellow Program in Management (FPM). The Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta teaches excellent management education to make general managers and high-level decision makers with broad strategic vision.
Students are given admission to MBA programme based on the scores obtained in the Common Admission Test (CAT). Shortlisted candidates are invited for theGroup Discussion and Personal Interviewconducted usually in the month of March.
In addition to MBA programme, doctoral and executive programmes are also offered by th eIIM-C. Students of doctoral programme are awarded "Fellow of the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta" after the completion of course. The Association of Indian Universities has recognized the degree as equivalent to Ph.D.
The Government of India has also recognized the Fellowship in Management of IIM-C as equivalent to a Ph.D. degree in management education of a recognized Indian University.
Doctoral programme was first time offered by the IIM- Cin 1971. The doctoral programme at IIM-C has been designed to provide teaching and research at B-Schools and universities across the World.
Several scholarships sponsored by Aditya Birla Group, Ratan Tata Trust, HUL and many more are offered by the IIM-C. Scholarships are awarded to students on the basis of merit and a variety of other criteria.
A scholarship is also awarded to SC, ST and PWD students by the IIMC, sponsored by the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).
IIMC has a very strong alumni base, which makes it unique among the top management institutes of the world. IIMC alumni are occupying leadership positions as corporate managers, academicians and successful entrepreneurs, worldwide. The alumni maintain a close relation with the Institute, helping each other in their growth.
