PG Diploma in Mass Communication
Post Graduate Diploma or PG Diploma in Mass Communication is of recent origin. The education under it is not imparted at undergraduate level nor it’s a two years master course. It’s a diploma which one pursue after finishing one’s bachelors education. He has to devote just one year after his graduation to gain access to different mediums (Print, radio, television and internet).
Graduate of any stream can pursue this course but at the end of the course, he would be conferred with a diploma and not a degree. The contents of this course are similar to the contents of Bachelors and Masters programmes but are completed in a span of nine months. This course is also offered by various government universities and institutes.
Young Women Christian Association (YWCA), Young Men Christian Association (YMCA), Pioneer Media School and IIMC are some of the institutes of in Delhi that provide education at this level. PG Diploma is fast overtaking ‘Masters in Mass Communication’. Even Distance education universities like Indira Gandhi National Open University ( IGNOU) is also offering one year diploma course in Mass Communication after graduation.
Eligibility for PG Diploma in Mass Communication
Age : A student should have completed 20 years at the time of joining the course. The upper limit is 25 years. But those who belong to SC/ST categories are given relaxation of 5 years. The SC/ST candidates can appear for the test even if they have attained the age of 30 years. Other Backward Castes candidates, however, are provided relaxation of 3 years.
Education Qualification : A student should possess bachelor’s degree after 10+2+3. The stream in which he/she has attained the degree doesn’t matter. Degree holders of any stream are welcome however the marks which he/she has obtained are of real significance. Most of the universities and institutes take only those students who have attained minimum 50 percent in bachelors’ degree. A student getting less than 50 percent is not allowed to take up the entrance test. Some universities demand atleast 60 percents. The institutes/universities keep on changing the eligibility criteria. To keep oneself updated on it, the student must check the latest prospectus or information brochure of the university/institute.
PG Diploma Mas Communication Admission Process:
Admission to diploma programs in mass communication is usually based on a written test. The entrance exam tests a candidate's general knowledge and aptitude. Each institute conducts its own test. Some institutes also hold interviews for selection of candidates for mass communication courses. The
entrance test is more or less similar to that of Bachelor's in Mass Communication.
