Top 10 Colleges Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal, opened its doors on June 30, 1953. The college started with only the pre-clinical section at Manipal and the students had to go to Mangalore for their clinical The Medical Council of India granted recognition in 1958 with the first graduating batch of KMC. Recognition by the General Medical Council of Great Britain and the Malaysian Medical Council soon followed. Today MAHE ( of which KMC is a constituent college) degrees are recognised in all countries. The physical facilities for research work and student amenities have been steadily developed over the years. Today the 200 acre campus provides one of the finest environments for study in south asia. Kasturba Medical College (KMC) has two campuses, one at Manipal and the other at Mangalore. Kasturba Medical College, Manipal opened its doors on June 30, 1953. The basic science courses were conducted in Manipal and the clinical training was conducted at the government district hospital in Mangalore. KMC Mangalore was started in 1955, utilizing the clinical facilities of the Government Wenlock Hospital and Government Lady Goschen Hospital. In 1961 the pre-clinical section was started in Mangalore. The Medical Council of India granted recognition in 1958 with the first graduating class of KMC. Recognition by the General Medical Council of Great Britain and the Malaysian Medical Council soon followed. New courses, faculty research and student amenities have steadily developed over the years. The first college in the private self-financing sector, KMC ranks among the top four medical colleges in the country today. Students from 45 countries have graduated from KMC, and the degrees have been recognised worldwide. Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) The subjects of study in MBBS are: anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, community medicine, pathology, pharmacology, microbiology, forensic medicine, torhinolaryngology, ophthalmology, medicine, psychiatry, dermatology, surgery, orthopedics, obstetrics & gynecology and pediatrics. The Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), a deemed university awards the degree. Eligibility Admissions are based purely on academic qualifications and merit of an applicant and in conformity with the guidelines set by the Association of Indian Universities and the Medical Council of India. There is no provision for advance admission to the MBBS program. To be eligible to apply for this program, the study of physics, chemistry, biology and English is essential. The minimum requirement is an average of 60% marks or "C" grade in these subjects in your qualifying examinations (eg, CBSE, ISC, PUC, A Levels, IB, STPM, SAM, CPU or high school and college grades). If you are from the United States, then your application will be considered if you have taken 'AP' level courses (physics, chemistry and biology) or have one year of science in college. The grade point average requirement is 'C' or above. All candidates must be at least 17 years old on December 31 in the year of admission.
