National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur - Introduction

The Regional Institute of Technology (RIT), Jamshedpur was started in 1960 in the state of Bihar. Now the institute lies in the State of Jharkhand, known for its mines and mineral resources. With its establishment, the institute was given the responsibility by the government to provide training at under graduate level in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Metallurgy disciplines. With passage of time the institute has grown manifolds and started offering programmes at Post Graduate and Research level.

On 27th December, 2002, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India renamed the institution as National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur and bestows it the status of Deemed University.

The Institute, currently has a strength of 115 faculty members, 1350 students, and 300 administrative and supporting staff. It is located on the outskirts of Jamshedpur on 320 acres of sprawling land with a picturesque background of low hills and flowing river.

The Institute has been growing from strength to strength ever since it was established in 1960.

There are ten halls of residence in the institute campus, 8 for boys and 2 for girls. NIT Jalandhar has a well equipped library which has a reading room, two book banks and a stack room. The Computer Center accommodates central computing facilities.The students get their share of entertainment and energy from various clubs like the Cultural and Dramatic society, the Literary and Debating society, the Fine Arts club, the Engineers Adventure club, the Rotaract club, Amateur Electronic society, NSS, and many others.
