Programs Offered in Science Stream

Following study programs in Sciences (Mathematics, /Physics, /Chemistry, /Biology, etc.) are offered by various university departments in the country. In addition to these conventional programs, there are few applied science programs being offered by various colleges / institutes/ universities in India.

Intermediate in Science (Class XII): This is the preliminary stage (senior secondary level) where students get basics of science education. This is a two year course offered by various central boards (viz. CBSE, ICSE), state boards and councils.

Eligibility Criteria:
A candidate must have completed 15 years of age and 10 years of schooling during the time of admission for this program. 

Under Graduate (UG) Programs –
B.Sc. (Bachelor of Science) degree is awarded under this program. This is a three year degree program offered by various universities.

Eligibility Criteria: A candidate must have completed 17 years of age and must have cleared his higher secondary (class 12th) education in Science only. Those appearing for the examination are also eligible to apply for the under graduate courses. Candidate should also be able to fulfill other criteria viz a minimum score at the higher secondary level so requires fulfilling the eligibility criteria laid by the University / Institutions / Departments in which he / she seek admission. The admission criteria are different for different institutions/universities offering the program.

Post Graduate (PG) Program
- M.Sc. (Master of Science) in relevant discipline is awarded under this program.

Eligibility Criteria:
A candidate must have completed Bachelors’ Degree during the time of admission in the relevant discipline. He / she also require fulfilling the eligibility criteria laid by the university department in which admission is sought.

Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.)
- This is pre doctoral program offered by various university departments and research institutes. Admission to this program is offered on the basis of Interview and past academic record. The score in GATE / NET / JEST is also taken into consideration. This is a one year program.

Eligibility Criteria-
This program is offered to candidates who shows research aptitude and who have good academic record. The minimum eligibility criterion for admission into this program is M.Sc. in relevant discipline.

Doctoral Programs
- Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) is awarded under this program. The degree is awarded in the area in which candidates pursues specialization and submit thesis work. The minimum duration of this program is 3 years and maximum 5 years. 

Eligibility Criteria:
Most university departments and research institutions accepts Qualification in National Eligibility Test (NET), /Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), and /Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) for Ph.D. admissions. An M.Phil. qualification is also helpful for getting admission into Ph.D. program. Besides, candidates also require fulfilling the eligibility criteria laid by the concerned department. Sometimes, institutes conduct written test as well as Interview for admission.

    After class 10th, a student may choose any of the available streams. In class 11th and 12th, those who take science, learn the basics of Applied Physics, Applied Chemistry, Plant and Animal Biology and/or Higher Math.
