The St. Xavier’s College, Calcutta was established in 1860 by the Belgian Jesuits, an international group of Jesuits commissioned by the English Jesuit Province landed in Calcutta to look after the interests of the Catholics. Since its inception, the college has achieved various levels of success in offering quality education to the people of the nation. The college now holds a position in the top ten colleges of the country for science education. The B.Sc. Departments became co-educational from the beginning of the 1978-79 session.
