Civil Services (Preliminary) Exam 2013 for Indian Forest Services exam 2013

As reported by IndiaEduNews on 28 February 2013, the Indian Forest Service (IFoS) Exam conducted by the UPSC will be a two tier examination similar to the pattern of the Civil Services Examination. The Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2013 which will be conducted on 26 May 2013, serves as the screening test for both the Civil Services as well as the Indian Forest Service Examination.

However, there won't be a change in the eligibility criteria for the candidates to appear in the IFS 2013 exam.

Applications are invited from interested candidates for the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2013. Candidates who qualify will have to apply again for the Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination which is expected to be held on 21 September 2013.

Application Forms Now Available

There are 85 vacancies to be filled on the basis of results from the exam. This number is liable to change. Reservation will be made for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes and Physically Handicapped Categories in respect of vacancies as may be fixed by the Government.

How to Apply

Interested candidates can apply online for the Civil Services (Preliminary) Exams 2013 by filling out the online application form. Please note that candidates applying for the Indian Forest Service Examination also have to fill out this same common application form.

Make sure you carefully go through the instructions for filling out the form.

The application fee is Rs. 100. All female candidates and Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/ Physically Handicapped category candidates don't need to pay this application fee. This  does not apply to Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates.

The application is free for physically disabled candidates as well, provided that they fulfill the eligibility criteria for medical fitness for appointment to various posts/services.

Exam Pattern for Civil Services (Preliminary) Exam 2013

The Civil Service Prelims 2013, which is essentially a screening test to qualify for the Civil Services Main Exam 2013, will have two papers, both objective in nature with multiple choice questions (MCQs). The UPSC has the right to change the examination centres at their own discretion if the need arises.

Please note that blind candidates need to take the examination at any one of these seven centres only:
Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Dispur and Mumbai.

Candidates admitted to the examination will be informed of the time table and place/places of examination. Please note that no request for change of centre will be granted.

Eligibility Criteria

In order to be eligible to appear for the Indian Forest Services Exam 2013, a candidate should meet the following educational qualifications:


The candidate must hold a bachelor's degree with at least one of the subjects:

  • Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science
  • Botany
  • Chemistry
  • Geology
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Statistics
  • Zoology

or

a bachelor's degree in:

  • Agriculture
  • Forestry

or

in Engineering of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University Under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification.
