IITs to conduct Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Advanced 2014) on 25 May

The IITs have announced the exam date for JEE Advanced 2014. Paper 1 will be conducted from 9 a.m - 12 noon on 25 May, 2014, Sunday and Paper 2 will be conducted from 2 pm to 5 p.m. on the same day.

The Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) 2014 is conducted by the seven zonal branches of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) for admission to bachelor's degrees in many engineering, technological, and science disciplines, along with courses in Integrated Master of Science degrees in pure and applied sciences, and also in Integrated Masters of Technology in certain disciplines. Some IITs offer Dual-Degree Master of Technology program, where both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree are awarded to the student at the end of the course.

Eligibility criteria

If you wish to write JEE (Advanced) 2014, you must have also written Paper I of JEE (Main), which will be held in April 2014. Only the top 1.5 lakh ranks will be allowed to write the JEE (Advanced) 2014 exam in May.

You can attempt the JEE (Advanced) only twice, and in consecutive years. Further eligibility details on JEE Advanced 2014 eligibility criteria page.

Exam pattern and syllabus

The examination will be held on May 25, 2014. Paper I will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and Paper II will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The exam will be held on the scheduled date unless it is declared as a public holiday.

Both papers have a duration of three hours. The examination papers will be printed separately in English and Hindi, and candidates have to specify the language of their choice at the time of online application. Both Paper I and Paper II entail questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, and questions will be of multiple choice (or objective) form. Some sections have negative marking, and will be mentioned in the instructions.

Application procedure

JEE (Main) 2014's result will be declared by May 3, 2014, and the top 1.5 lakh test-takers are allowed to register for the JEE (Advanced) 2014 examination. Registration is to be done online at http://jeeadv.iitkgp.ac.in between 10 a.m. on May 04, 2014 to 5 p.m. on May 09, 2014.
