Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2013 by UPSC

The Preliminary Examination of the Civil Services Examination 2013 will be conducted on 26 May 2013 by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for selection of candidates for the Civil Services Main Examination.

The main examination is expected to be held in November/December 2013. This year there are approximately 1,000 vacancies in various public services that need to be filled up by candidates who clear the Civil Services Main exam as well as the Interview Round.  Please keep checking our exam alerts section for regular updates on the main exam for 2013.

Important Dates

  • Online application for the Civil Services (Preliminary) Exam 2013 available: 5 March - 4 April 2013 (up to 11:59 p.m.)
  • Date of the exam: 26 May 2013
  • e-Admit cards available online: 3 weeks before the exam

How to Apply

Interested candidates can apply online for the Civil Services (Preliminary) Exams 2013 by filling up the detailed online application form. Please note that candidates applying for the Indian Forest Service Examination also have to fill this same common application form.

Make sure you carefully go through the instructions for filling out the application.

The application fee is Rs. 100. All female candidates and Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/ Physically Handicapped category candidates don't need to pay the fee. This free application does not apply to Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates.

The application is free for physically disabled candidates as well, provided that they fulfill the eligibility criteria for medical fitness for appointment to various posts/services.

Exam Pattern for Civil Services (Preliminary) Exam 2013

The Civil Service Prelims 2013, which is essentially a screening test to qualify for the Civil Services Main Exam 2013, will have two papers, both objective in nature with multiple choice questions (MCQs). Each paper is 200 marks each and has two hours allotted. Find out more details of the exam pattern.

The UPSC has the right to change the examination centres at their own discretion if the need arises.

Please note that blind candidates need to take the examination at any one of these seven centres only:
Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Dispur and Mumbai.

Candidates admitted to the examination will be informed of the time table and place/places of examination. Please note that no request for change of centre will be granted.
