The Junior Engineers (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Quantity Surveying and Contract) Examination Examination 2013 will be held on 19 May 2013 across India (the date has been changed from 26 May) by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC).

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates should generally have at least a degree or diploma in either electrical, civil or mechanical engineering from a government recognized institution.Certain posts require only a diploma, while others require a diploma and work experience.

For Junior Engineer (Civil and Electrical) in CPWD and Department of Posts, candidates must be between 18 and 27 years of age. Junior Engineers (Civil and Mechanical) in CWC and Farakka Barrage may be up to 32 years old. Junior Engineer (Civil) and Junior Engineer (Electrical & Mechanical) post candidates for MES must not be over 30. Junior Engineers (Quantity Surveying and Contract) in MES should be between 18 and 27 years of age. Age relaxation is permissible for some candidates.

Exam Pattern

There are two stages to successfully gaining a post:

  • Written Test (500 marks)
  • Interview (100 marks)

Written Test

Paper I: Objective type questions

10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: 50 marks
  • General Awareness: 50 marks
  • Part A General Engineering (Civil & Structural) OR

Part B General Engineering (Electrical) OR

Part C General Engineering (Mechanical): 100 marks

Paper II: Conventional type questions

2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Part A General Engineering (Civil and Structural) OR

Part B General Engineering (Electrical) OR

Part C General Engineering (Mechanical): 300 marks

Personality Test (Interview)

The Personality Test has a maximum of 100 marks. You must earn minimum qualifying marks in order to appear for the interview.

Application Procedure

Registration for the test has two parts, Part I Registration and Part II Registration. Online submission of the basic information for Part I will generate a registration number. Part II registration includes uploading a photograph, scanned signature and payment details. The fee for the test is Rs. 100. Women and SC/ST category candidates are not required to pay the fee. You may pay the fee online through State Bank of India (SBI) net banking or in person with cash through an SBI bank challan. Payment through debit or credit card is not available.

Do not submit a printout of your application to the commission. The registration number and fee payment details should be retained.
