Center for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) - Introduction

The Center for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) was established as a scientific society in March 1988 by the Department of Electronics, Ministry Information Technology; Government of India.Initially the center was established as a scientific society for conducting R & D work in design, development and deployment of advanced information technology based solution. Within a decade of its establishment, the CDAC has been recognized as a center of excellence by the government of India as well as other national and international agencies.The development of PARAM, a high performance super computer by CDAC reserves its place among the leader organizations in the country.

C-DAC has pioneered in Graphics and Intelligence based Script Technologies (GIST) which is oriented to vast diversified multilingual population of Indian Democratic Republic in particular and human population in general.The use of GIST range of hardware and software product has led to the increased use of computers and computer technologies in all major Indian languages.The GIST has millions of user across the globe.

To meet the requirement in diverse areas, the C-DAC has broadened its activities and hence provides its IT based services to sectors like Information Technology, enabling IT based solutions in areas like Financial and Capital market simulation and modeling, Network and Internet Software, Healthcare, Real Time Systems, eGovernance, Data Warehousing, Digital library, Artificial Intelligence and Natural language processing.

The Center for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), has been awarded a number of sponsored projects by the various agencies of repute, viz; Department of Information Technology (DIT), Department of Official Language (DOL), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Department of Culture (DOC), Department of Biotechnology (DOB), including various other departments of government of India.These projects are part of C-DAC’s developmental activities.

The C-DAC has conducted a number of projects for different organizations both government as well as corporate.The C-DAC serves the purpose of driving business through its R & D technologies.These are categorized in the following areas

  • High Performance Computing & Communication for scientific and business applications
  • Networking
  • Turnkey Solutions for Power, Telecom, Health, Financial Market etc.
  • Third party products based value – addition in products and services Geomatics
  • eGovernance
  • The National PARAM Supercomputing facility (NPSE) located at C-DAC’s Pune center has PARAM 10000 which has a 100 Gigaflop peak computing power.The capacities of PARAM are used by scientists and engineers of C-ADC.

The National Multimedia Resource Center (NMRC) of C-DAC is dedicated for development of tools and templates for fast and convenient design of multimedia titles and web content for professionals and entrepreneurs who want to infuse multimedia in their profession.
