NSD Programs & Admission Process
The school provides a three-year diploma in Dramatics with specialization in direction, acting and stagecraft. The Diploma of the school is recognised by Government of India for recruitment under Central government and is equivalent to a Post-Graduate Degree. On the basis of a diploma from the school, a candidate can not only apply for the position of teachers in various colleges and universities but can also seek registration for Ph.D programs.
Eligibility for NSD Courses- Graduate in any subject from a recognized University.
- Proficiency in Hindi and English.
- Active participation in at least 6 plays or in any other theatre related activity. All applications must be accompanied by copies of testimonials and certificates etc.
- The applicant's age should be between 18 to 30 years. The upper age limit is relaxed by five years for candidates belonging to SC/ST categories.
Selection ProcessA candidate has to clear two stages in order to seek admission to the three-year course offered by the NSD.
Stage I : The candidates appear for auditions or practical tests at any of the institute's four centers-Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore and Mumbai.
Stage II : The candidates who successfully pass through the first stage go through a 3 to 5 day workshop on NSD's campus at New Delhi.
The final selection is made on the basis of students' performance at the workshop.
