ISI - Membership

The Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) offers membership at three distinct levels

  • Member,
  • Student Member and
  • Institutional Member

The detail regarding eligibility criteria, fees and membership privileges etc is given below.

Member

Eligibility – The ISI membership is open to a person who at least holds Post Graduate degree and also willing to contribute towards the objectives of the Institute. The ISI Council awards membership.

The annual membership fee for members of the Institute are as follows :

  • Members resident in India (With Sankhya) Rs. 500.00
  • Members resident in India (Without Sankhya) Rs. 150.00
  • Members resident in USA, Canada, Mexico, South America, Europe, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, China US $ 90.00
  • Members resident in any other country except whose in “C” Rs. 750.00

Life membership :

Any member resident in India willing to become a life member has to pay a fee of Rs. 2000.00 less a rebate of Rs. 50.00 for each year for which ordinary annual subscription may have been already paid, subject to a maximum rebate of Rs. 750.00.

Any member resident in a foreign country who desires to become a life member has to pay a fee of US $ 750.00 less a rebate of US $ 20.00 for each year for which ordinary annual subscription may have been already paid, subject to a maximum rebate of US $ 300.00.

2. Privileges :

A member enjoys the following privileges :

  • He/she receives series of Sankhya free, unless the membership fee paid specifically excludes this privilege (in the case of residents of India);
  • He/she has the right to attend conferences, convocations, ceremonies and symposia held by the Institute from time to time, subject to satisfying the eligibility conditions and payment of fee prescribed for this purpose, if any, which will be notified to the members, as far as possible;
  • He/she can make use of the facilities available in the Institute libraries after depositing the usual caution money.
3. Application procedure :

A duly filled application form together with a attested photocopy of the post-graduate degree certificate / marksheet and a cheque (only Kolkata based) / demand draft of the requisite amount should be sent to the Council Section, Indian Statistical Institute, 203 Barrackpore Trunk Road, Kolkata 700 108, India. The form should be counter-signed by two persons who are already members of the Institute, as proposer and seconder.

Student Member

1. Eligibility : A candidate or bonafide student for the examinations of the Institute, if interested in the objectives of the Institute, is entitled to be enrolled as a student member member.

A student studying in post-graduate or equivalent academic qualifications, B.Tech., B.E. and equivalent academic qualifications in universities / deemed universities / academic institutions, if interested in the objectives of the Institute, is also entitled to be enrolled as a student member. The person has to be formally enrolled as a Student member by the ISI Council.

2. Fees :

A student member has to pay an annual subscription of Rs. 15.00.

3. Life membership :

A student member has to become a regular member before applying for life membership.

4. Privileges :

A student member enjoys the following privileges :
He/she can obtain any series of Sankhya at half the price charged to the public;
He/she can attend conferences, seminars and symposia held by the Institute from time to time;
He/she can make use of the facilities available in the Institute libraries after depositing the usual caution money.

5. Application procedure :

A duly filled application form together with a cheque (only Kolkata based) / demand draft of the requisite amount should be sent to the Council Section, Indian Statistical Institute, 203 Barrackpore Trunk Road, Kolkata 700 108, India. The form should be counter-signed by the Head of the institution of higher learning where the applicant is a student.

Institutional Member


1. Eligibility :

An instituion interested in the objectives of the Institute may be admitted by the ISI Council, at its own discretion, as an Instituional member.

2. Fees :

An institutional member has to pay an annual subscription of Rs. 1500.00.

3. Life membership :

An institutional member can not become a life member.

4. Privileges :

Institutional members can exercise their rights and privileges of membership through a representative duly nominated by appropriate authority of the member-institution or organisation. Member-institutions or organisations have the right to change their representative from time to time by giving a written notice to the Director of the Institute by registered post. Any representative of a member-institution or organisation, who may be elected to any administrative or other body or organisation of the Institute or to any office of the Institute, has to automatically vacate such membership or office as soon as he/she ceases to represent the member-institution or organisation in the Institute. His/her successor representative is not, however, deemed automatically elected or appointed to such membership or office.

5. Application procedure :


A duly filled application form together with a cheque (only Kolkata based) / demand draft of the requisite amount should be sent to the Council Section, Indian Statistical Institute, 203 Barrackpore Trunk Road, Kolkata 700 108, India. The form should be counter-signed by two persons who are already members of the Institute, as proposer and seconder.
