Regional Institute of Technology (RIT) Jamshedpur

It is one of the seventeen RECs jointly sponsored by the central and state governments. It was started in the year 1960. Since then, it has evolved into a beautiful campus with a modern administrative building, library & classrooms with state-of-the-art laboratories, computer centre & workshop. There are several hostels and residential quarters spread over 380 acres on the bank of the river Kharkai.

The institute is affiliated to the Ranchi University for awarding degree for the various courses offered by the college. The institute has a unique advantage of being situated in Jamshedpur; the birth-place of an industrial giant -- the TATA group of companies like TISCO, TELCO, Tata tubes etc. There are a host of small scale industries & reputed institutes like the National Metallurgical Laboratory and National Institute of Foundry & Forge Technology .

The institute has successfully been shaping the career of the students for over four decades. It has come up as a seat of scientific & technological learning, instilling a sense of purpose and imparting an integrated personality to the young learners.

Academic Programmes


B.Sc.(Engg.)
Regional Institute of Technology is jointly aided by the central and state governments. Nearly half of the total seats in a fresh batch are filled with students from Bihar. They are selected through a common entrance examination conducted for admission to all engineering colleges in the state for a four year under-graduate course. The remaining seats are allotted to the students of other states.. The students of other states seek admission on the basis of their selection in the entrance examination or the merit criteria followed by their respective states.

Postgraduate courses

The Post-graduate students seek admission based on the merit awarded in the GATE or a written test and / or interviews conducted by the Institute.

NRI Admissions
The Institute admits 10 % of total students as NRI students for the under-graduate courses per year and 3 for post-graduate course per semester.

These seats are distributed as last year as follows, however it is a subject of change relating to market condition :

  • Computer Sc. & Engg. - 7 seats.
  • Electronics Engg. - 7 seats.
  • Electrical Engg. - 4 seats.
  • Mechanical Engg. - 4 seats.
  • Production Engg. & Management - 2 seats.
  • Metallurgical Engg & Material Sc. - 2 seats.
  • Master of Computer Applications (MCA) - 3 seats.

Eligibility

The undergraduate students are required to have a minimum of 50% in PCM (Physics + Chemistry + Mathematics) or an aggregate of 60% in the Higher Secondary school examination. The branches are allotted on the basis of a test conducted by the Institute before the admission. The student should be sponsored by his/her NRI relative.

Fee Structure:

Undergraduate courses : $ 4000 (US) per year
MCA : $ 3000 (US) per year.
