IBPS: Recruitment for Group A and Group B officers in RRB

IBPS RRB Notification 2016

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) provides its service to all public sector banks by conducting exams for lakhs of candidates who need to qualify them in order to join various public sector banks for different posts. IBPS has recently announced the recruitment process for Group A and Group B officers in Regional Rural banks (RRB) across the country. Candidates intending to appear for the examination need to apply for this exam after carefully going through the IBPS RRB exam date, recruitment process, eligibility criteria, registration process, application fees, issuance of call letter etc.

IBPS RRB Exam Procedure

Any candidates aspiring to join a Regional Rural bank (RRB) as a Group A Officer (Scale I, II or III) or Group B- Office Assistant (multipurpose) must register for the Common Recruitment Process. For scale I Officers and Office Assistants, the recruitment process will be held in two parts, the online exams will take place in two phases: prelims and main. For the post of office assistants, the candidates will be provisionally allotted as per their marks obtained in the main examination and vacancies offered by RRBs. The shortlisted candidates in scale I exam need to appear for a common interview conducted by Nodal Regional rural banks. For scale II and III officers, they need to appear for single online examination and shortlisted candidates will then have to appear for another round of interview.

Candidates appearing for Group A and Group B officers in IBPS RRB exam should keep in mind that they can appear for both the post of Group A and Group B officers; however, under the Group A category, a candidate can apply for a single scale i.e. either Scale I, III or III. Eligibility Criteria for IBPS RRB Exam 2016

  • A candidate must be a citizen of India or a subject of Nepal, Bhutan or a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and East African countries with an intention to settle in India permanently.
  • Age (as on 1.09.2016) for officers in Scale III must be above 21 years and below 40 years
  • Age (as on 1.09.2016) for officers in Scale II must be above 21 years and below 32 years
  • Age (as on 1.09.2016) for officers in Scale I must be above 18 years and below 30 years
  • Age (as on 1.09.2016) for Office Assistants(multipurpose) should be between 18-28 years

The maximum age limit for the various posts mentioned above is limited to General category only.  For scheduled castes and scheduled tribes the age relaxation is 5 years, for other backward classes, the age relaxation is 3 years. For ex- servicemen, the age relaxation is 3 years if applying for the post of Office Assistants and 5 years if applying for the post of officer. Widows, divorced or separated women will get an age relaxation of 9 years only for the post of Office Assistants. Relevant caste certificate must be produced at the time of verification during the joining process.

Educational Qualification required for IBPS RRB 2016

  • For the post of office assistants and Scale I officers, a relevant degree in any discipline from a recognized University or equivalent is required along with proficiency in local language as required by the participating RRBs. Basic computer knowledge is also required
  •  For Scale II (General banking) officers, a relevant degree from any recognized University or equivalent with minimum 50% marks in aggregate is required
  • For Scale II (Specialist) officers, a degree from recognized University in Electronics, Computer Science, and Information Technology or equivalent with minimum 50% marks in aggregate is required. Candidates with prior knowledge and certification in C++, Java, ASP, PHP is desirable.
  • For scale III officers, a relevant degree from any recognized University or equivalent with minimum 50% marks in aggregate is required

Application Fees

Application fees must be paid online between 14.09.2016-30.09.2016. Bank transaction charges for online payment must be borne by the candidates themselves.
For officers (scale I, II, and III)

  • Rs. 100/- for SC/ST and OBC candidates
  • Rs. 600/- for all other candidates    

For Office Assistants (Multipurpose)

  • Rs. 100/- for SC/ST / PWD/ EXEM candidates
  • RS. 600/- for all other categories

As per the IBPS RRB exam pattern, with every wrong answer, one fourth of the marks assigned to a particular question will be deducted. If a question is left unanswered, no marks will be deducted for that particular question. This is applicable to all exams including prelims and main.

The examination will be carried across various exam centres in India and the candidates need to reach at the allotted venue at their own expense on the day of the examination.

 For candidates appearing for the post of officers (scale I, II and III), they need to appear for an interview after the preliminary written exam. The total marks allotted for the interview is 100. The IBPS RRB exam cut-off for general category is minimum 40% (35% in case of SC/ST/OBC)

Issuing of Admit Card and Tentative Dates

The date, time and venue of the written examination as well as the interview will be mentioned in the IBPS RRB exam admit card. A candidate can download the soft copy of his/her admit card from IBPS website (www.ibps.in) by entering their details like the registration number and password.

Provisional Allotment

After completion of the main exam/ interview, shortlisted candidates will be provisionally allotted to one of the RRBs based on the merit list. The decision of IBPS shall be considered final regarding the provisional allotment of candidates, which shall bind upon them.
