The Central Recruitment & Promotion Department conducts the recruitment of officers & clerical cadre in the State Bank of India & its associate banks.

Important Dates  2017

Given here are the important dates for the PO exam conducted by SBI for recruitment of probationary officers for the financial year 2017 - 2018 for which there are 2313 vacancies (347-SC, 350-ST, 606-OBC, 1010-GEN) and 90 vacancies for people with disabilities (PWD.)

  • Online application registration: 7 February to 6 March, 2017

Probationary Officer (P.O.) Post

Probationary officers will be on probation for two years, during which they will be given intensive training. As they near the end of the program they will have to appear for screening. Those who are able to attain the subjected standards may be confirmed and posted in a higher grade (Officer Middle Management Grade Scale II), while others who have qualified but have failed to attained the higher standards will be confirmed as Officer Junior Management Scale Grade I. Those who are unable to clear the screening process will have their services terminated.

SBI Bank PO Salary

Some basic information about the bank p.o. position is listed below:

  • The starting grade is the Junior Management Grade Scale I. Basic pay for the post is about Rs.27,620 with a chance of four increments in the same level.
  • The official may get D.A., C.C.A., H.R.A as per the norms of the bank.
  • The compensation per annum will be on the range of Rs. 7.93 lakh - Rs.12.95 lakh (depending on the place where you're posted) that can be broken up as:
  • Apart from this the officers are also provided with benefits such as:
  1. 100% medical aid for self and 75% medical aid for family
  2. Home travel concession/leave fare concession
  3. Concessional interest rates for housing/personal loans

Eligibility Criteria

The following criteria applies to candidates who want to write this SBI Bank PO exam 2017:

  • If you have a graduation degree from any recognised university or an equivalent qualification recognised by the central government, you can apply for the job.
  • You must not be below 21 years and not over 30 years as of 1 January, 2017 for general category candidates.
  • The age limit is relaxed for the reserved category: the upper limit for candidates of Other Backward Classes (OBC) is relaxed by three years.
  • The upper limit of age for Scheduled Class (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) has been relaxed by five years.
  • If you are an ex-servicemen, serving in the Short Service Commission or if you have served five years in military service, the upper limit of age is relaxed by five years.
  • Candidates domiciled in Kashmir Division between January 1, 1980 to December 31, 1989 have their upper age limit relaxed by five years.
  • Relaxation of upper age limit has also been done for 10 years for VH/OH (general) candidates; 13 years for VH/OH (OBC) and 15 years for VH/OH (SC/ST) candidates.

Pertaining to the VH/OH candidates who suffer from above 40 percent disability must have the relevant certificate issued by the Medical Board of Central Government of India.

  • Candidates having locomotor disability or cerebral palsy amounting to a minimum 40% disability are eligible to apply under:
  1. BL: both legs affected but not the arms
  2. OA: only one arm affected with impaired reach, weakness in grip and ataxia
  3. OL: only one leg affected
  4. MW: muscular weakness with limited physical endurance.
  • For visually handicapped candidates, those with these cases will be eligible to apply:
  1. Total absence of light
  2. Visual acuity not exceeding 6/60 or 20/200 (Snellen) in the better eye corrected by lens
  3. Limitation of the field of vision to 20 degrees or less

Exam Pattern

The exam pattern can be divided in the following three phases.

Phase I - Preliminary exam

  • This online examination will be an objective test (online mode) of 1 hour
  • You must answer 100 objective type questions, divided into 3 sections :
    English language - 30 questions, 30 marks
    Quantitative aptitude - 35 questions, 35 marks
    Reasoning ability - 35 questions, 35 marks
  • You need to qualify each of the above 3 tests to be shortlisted for the Main exam.

Phase II - Main exam

  • The main exam will have an objective test (online) for 200 marks and a descriptive test (online) for 50 marks.
  • The 3 hour objective test will have 4 sections & you must qualify each of these sections:

3 hrs

  • There will also be a descriptive test of English language that will include letter writing & essay. This test will be for 30 mins and 50 marks.
  • The descriptive test answer sheet will be evaluated only for those who score qualifying marks in the objective test.
  • There will be one-fourth negative amrking for wrong answers in the objective tests (prelims and main.)

Phase III - Group Discussion (GD) & Interview 

  • Group Discussion is worth 20 marks and the Interview is worth 30 marks.

Final selection

  • The Preliminary Exam (Phase-I) marks will not be counted for the final  selection - only Main Examination's marks (Phase-II), both of Objective Test and Descriptive Test, will be added to GD & Interview score(Phase-III) to prepare the final merit list.

  • You have to qualify both in Phase-II and Phase-III separately.

  • SC/ST: no restriction

No mobiles, pagers, calculators or any other electronic devices are allowed in the examination centre. If you are following unfair means or are accused of misbehaviour, you can be disqualified and debarred from ever taking the examination again. Results after the completion of Phase II will be declared on the official website of the bank. The final selection list will be published in newspapers such as Employment News and Rozgar Samachar.

Application Procedure

  1. You must first register at the official website of the bank, www.statebankofindia.com or www.sbi.co.in, and pay the application fee through Online mode in which the payment is done by credit card, debit card or internet banking.
  1. The price of the form is Rs. 600 for General candidates and Rs. 100 for SC, ST and PWD candidates.
  2. You must provide a valid mailing ID that is active until the declaration of results
  3. You must scan your photograph and signature as per the scanning guidelines set by the bank.
  4. You must log on to the bank's website and open the right the application format from the Recruitment Link. Only then can you submit your data.
  5. The data is saved and a provisional number and password is given in case the application form is not filled up in the first chance.
  6. The fee will be accepted from the second working day after your registration and must be paid within three days. Paying the fees is the last step of the registration process.
  7. The registration information will be received via a message on your cell phone after three working days.
  8. A printout of the form and fee receipt must be preserved for further correspondence.
  9. For online payment there will be no challan. The payment is to be made by secure gateways in which the particulars must be carefully filled in. No alteration can be done once the process has started.
  10. The online portals will direct you by instructions and after the entire process is complete you will get an e-receipt.

Keep in mind the following important information:

  1. The face in the photograph must be clear or else the application may be rejected.
  2. If you are serving in Government offices, Quasi Government offices or the Public Sector, you must submit a 'No Objection Certificate' from your employer.
  3. If you are selected, a proper discharge certificate must be procured from your former employer.
  4. Call letters will be only sent via mail and there will be no hard copies. You are required to fill in the registration number and password in "the acquaint yourself" book that is to be downloaded.
  5. Identity proofs must be offered to the invigilators at the time of the entrance test and a photocopy of the identity proof with proper attestation must be handed over.
