BITSAT is an entrance examination for admission to integrated first degree programmes of BITS Pilani (Pilani, Goa, Hyderabad & Dubai campuses).

Student who have passed class 12th, or who are studying in class 12th with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as subjects, are eligible to write the BITSAT  - BITS Admission Test.

BITS Pilani has 3 campuses in India. Besides the main Pilani Campus, BITS has campuses in Goa and Hyderabad. Undergraduate programs will be offered in all 3 campuses on the basis of score in BITSAT 2013. Besides, BITS Pilani also offers several postgraduate and other programs.

BITSAT 2013 is an online test. Students are tested in areas of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Logical Reasoning, and English. BITSAT 2013 Score shall be used for admission in BITS Pilani, BITS Hyderabad, and BITS Goa Campuses. The BITS Pilani calls engineering degree programs for undergraduate students as Integrated First Degree Program.

BITSAT 2013 test is highly competitive as BITS is one of the top notch engineering sciences universities in the world. For appearing in BITSAT 2013 no special computer skills are required. It is the candidate's competitive ability in physics, chemistry, and mathematics which will help them secure a place in BITSAT 2013 Merit. The degrees earned from BITS Pilani are considered equivalent to degrees awarded from any other recognized university or institution.

BITS Pilani is a Deemed University, and it comes under the purview of Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) of Government of India. Integrated First Degree programs offered by BITS Pilani are approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and other government bodies. The certificates issued from BITS Pilani are honoured both in India and overseas, for study and work.

About the BITSAT 2013 Programmes

Integrated First Degree Programmes to which admissions will be made on the basis of BITSAT 2013:

(i) at BITS, Pilani – Pilani Campus:
B.E.(Hons.): Chemical, Civil, Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics & Instrumentation, Mechanical, Manufacturing .
B.Pharm.(Hons.);
M.Sc.(Hons.): Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Economics, Mathematics, Physics and
M.Sc.(Tech.): General Studies, Finance, Information Systems.

(ii) at BITS, Pilani – Goa Campus:
B.E.(Hons.): Chemical, Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics & Instrumentation, Mechanical.
M.Sc.(Hons.): Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Economics, Mathematics, Physics. and
M.Sc.(Tech.): Information Systems.

Note: All students admitted to M.Sc.(Hons.) programmes are given an option to work for a second degree for one of the B.E. (Hons.)/B.Pharm.(Hons.) programmes under the dual degree scheme, assignment being made by competition on their performance at BITS at the end of first year, separately in Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad campuses. Under this scheme, a student normally requires five years to complete both the degrees and is awarded both the degrees, namely M.Sc.(Hons.) and B.E.(Hons.)/B.Pharm.(Hons.)

BITSAT 2013 Exam Dates

BITSAT 2013 will be held across test centres in 35 cities in India from 14 May – 1 June 2013.

Candidates can select any one of these days to take the test. Candidates must reserve their desired test dates between 29th February, 2013 to 20th March, 2013.

BITSAT is a competitive examination, and notifications are issued by Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani. You can access the latest BITSAT 2013 notification here.

BITSAT 2013 Application Form

Interested candidates should register their names for BITSAT-2013 by applying in the prescribed application form online. Complete the application form online here and pay the prescribed fees. Also take the print out of the filled form for your future reference. If you make payment by Demand draft then a copy of the completed application form along with the prescribed fees of Rs. 1850/- (Rs. 1350/- for female candidates) should be sent to:

If you are using a payment mode other than DD then the prescribed fee for BITSAT 2013 is Rs. 1750/-(Rs. 1250/- for female candidates).

If a candidate chooses Dubai as a test centre the application fee for both male and female candidates will be same and will be US $ 50 (or Indian Rs. 2500/- ).

Deadline to apply for BITSAT-2013 online along with the fee payment is 15th February 2013.
If you are using DD as the mode of payment, then the DD along with a copy of application form must reach Admissions Office, BITS Pilani by 5.00 PM on 15 February 2013.
Those who register for the test and reserve test dates have to download the ‘Hall ticket’, along with instructions, from BITS website as per the schedule given earlier.
 
How to Apply for Admission to BITS Pilani

In addition to applying and appearing for BITSAT-2013, candidates have to also apply for admission to BITS giving details of their 12th marks and preferences to different degree programmes offered. The prescribed application form for admission, the detailed application procedure and the final list of Degree programmes offered will be available at the BITS website, by 20 May 2013. The completed form with the required application fee has to be submitted so as to reach the under-mentioned on or before 5.00 PM on 29 June 2013:

BITSAT 2013 Eligibility Criteria

• For admission to all programmes except B.Pharm.(Hons.), and M.Sc.(Hons.) Biological Sciences: Candidates should have passed the 12th examination of 10+2 system from a recognized Central or State board or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, and adequate proficiency in English is also required.

• For admission to B.Pharm.(Hons.) and M.Sc.(Hons.) Biological Sciences programmes: Candidates should have passed the 12th examination of  10+2 system from a recognized Central or State board, or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, or Mathematics, and adequate proficiency in English is also necessary. Candidates having both Mathematics and Biology in 10+2 have to decide whether they wish to appear in Mathematics or Biology subjects in BITSAT.

BITSAT 2013 Eligibility Conditions

For admission to any of the above Integrated First Degree Programmes, candidates should have passed the 12th class examination of 10+2 system from a recognized Central or State board or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Further the candidate should have obtained a minimum of aggregate 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects in 12th examination, at least 60% marks in each of the Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects and should have adequate proficiency in English.

Only Students who are appearing for 12th examination in 2013 or who have passed 12th Examination in 2012 are eligible to appear in the BITSAT-2013 test. If a candidate has taken more than one attempt in 12th class or its equivalent, only his latest performance is considered, provided this attempt has been for the full component of subjects/courses prescribed.

Not eligible to apply for BITSAT 2013:

Students who have passed 12thexamination in 2011 or earlier are NOT eligible to appear in BITSAT-2013.
Students who are presently studying in BITS at any of its campuses are not eligible to appear in BITSAT-2013.
Admissions will be made purely on merit. The merit position of the candidate for admission will be based on the score obtained by the candidate in the BITSAT-2013. However, their eligibility for admission is subject to fulfilling the requirement of minimum marks in 12th examination, as mentioned above.;

Direct Admission to Board Toppers:

In the past, admission process of the Institute always ensured guaranteed admission to all the students who obtained first ranks in their respective board examinations. This has given a very vital input of highly meritorious students from all over India. First rank students of all the central and state boards in India for the year 2013 will be given direct admission to the program of their choice, irrespective of their BITSAT-2013 score as per the eligibility criteria mentioned above. Further details about this scheme will be available at BITS website by 20th May, 2013.

Admission criteria for BITS Pilani, Dubai campus:

Admissions to BITS Pilani, Dubai Campus are made on the basis of the overall aggregate of marks obtained by the candidates in the qualifying examination (Grade 12).

However candidates who will appear in BITSAT 2013 will be eligible for preferential admission in Dubai Campus based on the BITSAT 2013 score.

In addition to applying and appearing for BITSAT 2013, candidates interested in admission to BITS Pilani, Dubai Campus will have to apply for admission through a separate application form. BITSAT 2013 Exam Pattern

‘Computer Based Online test’ means that you have to sit in front of a computer and the questions are presented on the computer monitor and then you answer the questions on the computer through the use of keyboard or mouse. Each computer is connected to a server, which prepares the question set and delivers it to on your screen. This is unlike the traditional paper-pencil based test, which is generally offered on a single day to all candidates. BITSAT-2013 will be offered over a period of time and you can choose the Centre, the Day and Time of his/her convenience to take the test.

BITSAT 2013 Test Format:

BITSAT-2012 will be of total 3-hour duration (without break) and would have 4 parts:

Marking Scheme in BITSAT 2013

All questions are of objective type (multiple choice questions); with a choice of 4 answers, only one being the correct answer. Each correct answer fetches 3 marks, while each incorrect answer has a penalty of 1 mark (-1mark). No marks are awarded for questions not attempted. While the candidate can skip a question, the computer will not allow the candidate to choose more than one option as correct answer.

No. of Questions

There will be 150 questions in all. There is no time limit for individual parts of the test. You are free to go back & forth to change any of your answers among the 150 questions.

12 extra questions

If you answer all the 150 questions (without skipping any question), you’ll have an option of attempting 12 extra questions, if there is still time left. These extra questions will be from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics only; four questions from each part. Once you’ve opted for extra questions, you can’t go back for correction of any of the earlier answered 150 questions.

These extra questions are designed so that a good student will be able to answer 150 questions in 180 minutes. The extra questions (a maximum of 12) will give a chance to highly meritorious candidates to score higher.

However, you must remember that there is negative marking for wrong answers and any attempt to answer the questions by guessing is not likely to have any advantage, but may result in a reduction in the total score.

The questions will be selected at random from a large question bank. Different candidates will get different question sets. An expert committee will ensure that the question sets are of comparable difficulty level, content, question type etc. In this matter, the decision of the expert committee will be final and binding on the candidate.

All the questions and instructions of the test will be in English only. Candidates should bring a pen for the purpose of rough work, signing etc. Blank sheets for rough work will be provided, if required. Calculators and logarithmic tables are not allowed in the test centres. Candidates are not allowed to bring any other personal belongings such as mobiles.

BITSAT 2013 is a competitive examination. The success in BITSAT 2013 requires systematic approach; one has to be regular in his / her preparation. There is no shortage of study material for BITSAT 2013; you can find huge number of books in different bookstalls in your locality.

BITSAT 2013 Exam Centres

In order to allow a large number of students all over India to participate in this test, apart from Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad campuses of BITS where it is expected that a large number of students will take the test, the Institute is also planning to offer the tests at dedicated test centres in several cities. The planned test centres are in the following cities:

The candidate can choose the centres from within India or Dubai.  If a candidate chooses centres within India, he/she will be asked to give three preferences and will be allotted one out of these three. If a candidate chooses Dubai as a centre he/she will not be asked for any other centre preference and will be allotted Dubai centre.


The final list of centres in India and the operating days at each centre in India and Dubai will depend on the number of applicants and their preferences and will be announced only after all the applications are received and candidates will be informed of the same through BITS website, so that the candidates can choose their date for the test as per their convenience and availability of slots in any of these centres.
