Introduction
NABARD was set up in 1982 as an apex Development Bank to focus on facilitating credit flow for the promotion of agriculture and development of agriculture, small scale industries, cottage and village industries, handicrafts and other rural crafts. NABARD offers excellent job opportunities for professionals from the banking field, economics, financial services, insurance, hydrogeology, geology, applied geology, forestry, animal husbandry, dairy, agricultural engineering etc.
(i) Postgraduate degree in business management in related fields,
(ii) Postgraduation degree in Hydrogeology or Geology or Applied Geology or Forestry or Animal Husbandry or Dairy Farming or Agricultural Engineering, Economics.
(iii) there are recruitment tests for the subordinate posts at the clerical level for graduates but are localized in the respective states.
The incumbent must have an orientation towards rural India. NABARD strives to promote rural development and strengthening of rural institutions and encompassing research and consultancy in the field of rural and agricultural areas. The candidates must be prepared to serve in rural areas for initial years of their career.
Development Officer-Grade 'B' Examination Qualifications: Master's degree in Economics/Agricultural Economics (50%), Ph.D., desirable. Age: 24-32 years, Relaxable for certain categories as per rules. Subjects for Examination: Preliminary & Main Examination. Preliminary Examination: (One objective type paper): General Awareness, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning Ability. Main Exam: Three Paper's Paper I: General English & General Awareness Paper II: Economic and Social Problems.
b) Assistant Development Officer-Grade 'A' Examination Qualifications: Degree/Master's Degree (50%) Age: 21-26 years. Relaxable for certain categories as per rules. Subjects for Examination: Preliminary & Main Examination. Preliminary Examination :( One Objective type paper): General Awareness, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning Ability. Main Exam: Two Papers Paper I: General English & General Awareness Paper II: Economic and Social Problems.
Apart from this the candidates are also selected from among the summer trainees on the basis of an interview and summer-training to study the core competencies of NABARD in rural development, especially multi-disciplinary projects, rural banking and institutional development etc. The scheme focuses on assigning tasks/projects, useful and relevant to NABARD, to talented students with good academic background. The scheme also provides feedback with a fresh perspective through studies/projects undertaken by the students on themes of interest to NABARD. Further, these studies are expected to help evolving novel ideas for new activities, products and services which could be considered for being taken up by NABARD.
The themes shortlisted for the Summer Placement Scheme 2006-07 on the economic and agricultural issues of national importance and relevance to NABARD are as under:
i) Emerging challenges and role of PACS (Primary Agricultural Credits Society) for ensuring financial inclusion.
ii)Optimal farming systems and alternative income generation activities in dry land and moisture distress areas
iii) Impact assessment of micro water harvesting structures i.e., percolation tanks, farm ponds, check dams etc., including those irrigation projects assisted under RIDF projects.
iv) Linking of farmers with commodity future markets- present status and future strategies.
v) Alternatives for relief mechanisms and risk mitigation measures in agriculture. vi) Financing and development of marketing infrastructure and market information system.
vii) Impact evaluation of rural godowns and cold storage schemes set up with Government of India subsidy administered through NABARD. The candidates are selected from good institutes like IIMs or IIRMA (Indian Institute of Rural Management Anand) or good Agricultural universities.
Prospects of job progression are very good. Initially the candidate is placed in the rural areas but as he progresses to the middle level he is posted in metropolitan cities. These days with the Companies making a beeline towards the rural areas the person can get excellent jobs in the private banks also.
