Introduction
In order to gain familiarity with the subject called Robotics, firstly, it’s necessary to know the concept called a ‘robot’. The (ISO) International Standard Organization defines a robot as “an automatically controlled reprogrammable, multipurpose machine, with or without locomotion, for use in industrial automation applications”.
Today, all over the globe, robots are increasingly becoming popular due to their many virtues.
As Robots can be programmed to work repeatedly and accurately even in dangerous environments, they are playing a crucial role in various strategic affairs too.
Robotics is all about designing robots, maintaining them, developing new applications and conducting research.
The field of robotics involves knowledge from a variety of allied fields like electronics, mechanics, and computer sciences and hence aspirants for this field must be well aware of the technicalities associated with these fields.
As a candidate, trying to get into this field one needs to know some of the fields that are used in it. For that, an engineering degree (B.Tech or BE- Computer, IT, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electronics, Electrical etc) is generally considered an ideal qualification. Several engineering colleges including the seven IITs in Delhi, Kanpur, Mumbai, Chennai, Kharagpur, Guwahati and Roorkee, offer programmes in robotics and artificial intelligence.
Robotics is an emerging discipline hence it offers many excellent Job prospects. Presently, one can either work in the area of manufacturing industrial robots or application specific robots –for example, from robots meant for bomb disposal and other defence purposes to vacuum cleaners for one’s home. One can always indulge in further research in robotics and can eventually come out with his own range of robots.
Golden days are ahead for qualified professionals in the field of robotics. Robotics is coming up in a big way in India. As far as remuneration is concerned, this field offers excellent pay-packages. Generally, the starting monthly salary may range from Rs. 20,000 to even Rs.40, 000.
Generally, MNCs offer more benefits to deserving robotics professionals.
Besides the following institutions, many national universities impart training in this specialized field as part of their engineering programs as a special subjects.
