Introduction

Nursing is a noble profession of caring individuals of all ages, families, groups and communities, sick or well and in all situations. Nursing includes the promotion of health, prevention of illness, and the care of ill, disabled and dying people. Nurses are the important component of patient care e.g. in a hospital, you can find nurses every where – from the general ward to the operation theatre.

It is contrary to common people’s belief that nursing is the second choice career for those unable to gain entry in a medical college. The two professions, though complementary, require separate skills and temperaments. Where the doctor's contact with the patients is fleeting, nurses are expected to establish and maintain a relationship between them.

In India, the career prospect in nursing is increasingly high. More and more numbers of nursing schools/colleges are being opened to meet the growing demand of professional nurses in hospitals – whether private or government. The conception among the individuals as stated above has also been changed; now they are more anxious to make career in nursing.
