  • News Presenter/ Anchor

The media & entertainment industry is expected to double to Rs. 1,78,000 crore between 2013 to 2018. This industry will add 9 lakh jobs during the period 2013 - 2022. One of the promising jobs in this domain is that of a news presenter.

It is a fact that all the news channels have the news programme at the same time. So how do you select which channel to watch? You select it based on who the news presenter is and how the news is presented.

Typical responsibilities of a news presenter include:

1.    Conducting detailed research on various topics that need to be featured in the news programme.
2.    Identifying experts to be invited for panel discussions and TV shows.
3.    Moderating panel discussions.
4.    Preparing, reading from auto cues, memorizing scripts.
5.    Coordinating with various other members of the production team like field reporters, cameramen, and interviewees.

  • Billing Executive

The Indian retail sector has undergone tremendous transformation over the last few years—from traditional (your neighborhood kirana store) to organized retail (supermarkets, malls). Several new players—global and Indian—have entered into organized retail, making the competition stiffer. India has over 1.2 crore retail outlets, employing more than 3.3 crore people. The organized retail sector is the new hub of job opportunities, with many new malls and stores coming up. Billing executive is one of the promising jobs for freshers in India, identified as a crucial job role in the retail domain.

So, who is a billing executive?

When we visit Lifestyle, Shoppers Stop, Hypercity, and other big retail stores, we select products and head to the billing counter where a Billing Executive/Cashier takes charge. She/he collects the products, makes a bill and hands it over to us. She/he also informs us about offers available and also the benefits of becoming a member of the retail group.

Typical responsibilities of Billing Executive include:

1.    Receiving payment by cash, cheque, credit/debit cards.
2.    Issuing receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers.
3.    Resolving billing issues by directing them to the Customer Service Executive.
4.    Maintaining billing records and also records of all bills issued to customers.
5.    Training juniors by providing them practical experience.
6.    Receiving and processing all payments according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Starting salaries of billing executives are between Rs. 2.5 - 3.5 lakh per annum for organized retail companies.

  • Fault Management/ Support Engineer

The Indian telecom sector is expected to create at least 40 lakh direct and indirect jobs over the next five years on the back of the government’s efforts to penetrate into rural areas, along with growth in the smart phone numbers and internet usage, reports an estimate by Randstad India. The total number of professionals in the telecom sector is expected to double from 20 lakhs in 2013 to almost 42 lakhs by 2022 (Skill Gap Study.) This sector will therefore see a huge demand for "fault management/ support engineers."

A fault management/ support engineer is responsible for monitoring the network from the main location and ensures that faults are resolved within a stipulated time-frame to avoid big issues. The engineer gives directions to the team who carry out directions to correct faults.

Some responsibilities of fault management/ support engineer include:

1.    Constantly monitoring the network.
2.    Guiding the team in case any fault arises, by providing them with an appropriate solution.
3.    Monitoring alarms, localizing, correcting faults and verification resolution from a Remote Delivery Centre.
4.    Liaising with customer care organizations regarding network outages.
5.    Coordinating with internal/external customers, and Operation Teams for resolution/restoration.
6.    Providing support and coordination with sub-contractors and third parties to resolve faults.
7.    Supporting end-to-end support, coordination, and control of assigned trouble tickets and work-order.
8.    Carrying out proactive preventive measures to improve network availability.

The starting salary of these professionals can be anywhere between Rs. 2 - 4 lakh per annum.

  • Banquet Executive

The hospitality industry employs over 5 crore people in India and, on an average, has added 55,000 jobs per month since the beginning of 2013, compared to 30,000 jobs per month in 2012.

Due to shortage of trained manpower, talent poaching has increased in this industry. Increase in the attrition rate is as high as 50 per cent across functions. Entry-level has even higher attrition rates. This is good news for graduates entering the industry. One of the interesting job roles in this industry is that of a banquet executive.

When you decide to conduct family functions like a birthday celebration, a wedding reception, naming ceremony, at a hotel, you come across banquet executives who manage activities related to banquet sales, maintenance of banquet facilities, manage functions, and guest relations.

The typical activities of this professional are:

1.    Making sales calls to sell the use of the facilities for events to corporate houses as well as receiving walk-ins who want to discuss holding a family event such as a party/wedding reception at the hotel.
2.    Ensuring that the infrastructure present in the banquet hall is intact and properly maintained.
3.    Maintaining records of inventory, food cost, and labour cost.
4.    Handling bookings and suggesting the best menu and decorations.
5.    Ensuring that customers receive the best service during functions.
6.    Checking the availability of food and beverages during functions.
7.    Dealing with any issues/complaints that customers are having.
8.    Billing the customer and collections.

The starting salary of these professionals is between Rs. 2.4 - 4 lakh per annum.


Emergency Medical Technician paramedic careers indiaEmergency Medical Technician (EMT) provides emergency medical care to anyone who is critically ill or injured. EMTs are also known as paramedics or lifesavers.

  • Emergency Medical Technician

The healthcare sector which stood at Rs 4.8 lakh crore in 2012 is expected to double by 2017 to Rs 9.64 lakh crores. Even though there are more than 11 lakh allied health professionals (nursing associates, medical assistants, medical equipment operators, physiotherapists, sanitarians, optometrists, dieticians, and dental assistants etc.) in the India, there is still a shortage for these job profiles. In such a scenario, entering the medical field as an EMT seems like a good idea.

As the name goes, an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) provides emergency medical care to anyone who is critically ill or injured. EMTs are also known as paramedics or lifesavers.

Their typical responsibilities are:

1.    Reaching the accident spot or patient location at the shortest possible time.
2.    Assessing the patient’s condition and communicating with professional medical personnel to obtain instructions for the right course of action.
3.    Provide medical first aid like controlling bleeding, bandaging wounds, preventing shocks.
4.    Safely shifting the patient to the ambulance.
5.    Providing life support to the victim or patient while in the ambulance.
6.    Quick & efficient interaction with professional medical personnel in order to take the patient to the right treatment facility within the hospital
7.    Control the crowd/ family/ friends of patients at the accident scene
8.    Ensure that all kinds of paperwork (patient-care forms, insurance forms, evaluation forms etc.) are filled out properly on time.
9.    Clean and check the medical equipment and stock of supplies in the ambulance.
10.    Prepare a detailed report about the event.

The starting salaries of Emergency Medical Technicians range between Rs. 1.5 - 2.5 lakh per annum.
