Gurukula Kangri Vishwavidyalaya (GKV), Haridwar was founded on March 4, 1902 by Swami Shraddhanandaji with an objective to revitalize ancient Indian Gurukul System of Education. Its location is on the banks of river Ganga, about 6 Km from Haridwar and 200 Km from Delhi.

The University conducts study programs in the domains of Vedic Literature, Indian Philosophy, Indian Culture and Modern Science and conducts research programs through various departments.

Gurukula Kangri Vishwavidyalaya (GKV), Haridwar is declared Deemed to be University by University Grants Commission (UGC) in 1962. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) have given 4 star rating to this University in 2002. In the same year, the GKV also celebrated its centenary year. It’s an active member university of Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).

Considering the importance of distance education, the Gurukula Kangri Vishwavidyalaya (GKV), Haridwar started offering various courses through distance education mode in year 2003 – 04. These courses are approved from regulatory bodies like University Grants Commission (UGC), Distance Education Council (DEC) etc and recognized as equivalent to regular university programs.
