VNIT Nagpur | Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur (VNIT), named after the great engineer, statesman & visionary of modern India and Bharat Ratna Awardee M. Visvesvaraya, was established in June 1960 by the Government of India in collaboration with the Government of Maharashtra, with an aim of imparting excellent technical education at undergraduate level in the state.
One of first six Regional Engineering Colleges set up by the central government in association with various state governments across the country; the institute has traversed a long path.
Today the college besides offering engineering courses at undergraduate level offer technical education at post graduate level also. One can also take up research in various disciplines at the institute. Moreover, the institute has been conferred with a status of deemed university by Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) in 2002. The institute has autonomous Board of Governors who is representatives of the Central Government, State Government, Educational bodies like AICTE and UGC. Teaching Faculty, Industrialists, and Technologists also manage the institute.
