Vasundhara 2009 - Shaheed Bhagat Singh College Geography Association

Shaheed Bhagat Singh College Geography Association presents GEO-FEST, “VASUNDHARA-09” scheduled to be held on 26th - 27th November, 2009.

Established in 1967, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College is counted as one of the best institution of its kind in Delhi University. It has distinguished itself in diverse academic and professional fields by providing good quality education. The college is equipped with knowledge, skills and capabilities needed for complex business environment of the 21st century. The college provides the student community with a vibrant and intellectually stimulating academic culture, to promote independence of thought and vision. 

“VASUNDHARA” is an event of Geography Association of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College. It has come a long way and has cast a niche for itself with its quality of events and level of competition. “VASUNDHARA 09” has a generous motto to spread the word of “Climate change and water: Scarcity and inundation”. The focal theme is a major issue at global level. 

The prime objective of “VASUNDHARA” embarks to broden its platform and provides a rich learning atmosphere to students and faculties alike. We have a number of lectures by experts. Students will stand to gain, learn, to compete, to experience and to live some of the most memorable moment. There are dozens of inter-college events like Geodumbcharades, debate, creative writing, poster–making, face painting and quiz etc which makes “VASUNDHARA” so unique. As the horizon of events has magnificently increased, the participants have a wide variety to choose and showcase their talent. 

Another feature is the release of annual magazine “LANDSCAPE”, published by the Geography Association. The focal theme of this issue is “Water: Perspective, issues and concerns”. This magazine is a literary endeavour that not only provides a forum enabling students to present their writing talents but also to understand the issues and challenges of contemporary world.

Day 1 – Thursday, 26th  November,2009

10.00 a.m. - Inauguration
Chief Guest: Professor S. K. Vij, Dean, Students Welfare, D.U. and Chairman, Governing Body of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College
Release of Magazine “LANDSCAPE”

10.30 a.m. - Lecture by Dr. Swati Basu, Advisor, Ministry of Earth Sciences
11.30 a.m. - Tea Break 

11.45 a.m. - Debate - Theme: “Is climate change a problem” 

1.00 p.m. - Refreshments

1.30 p.m. - Geodumbcharades 

2.30 p.m. - Parallel Sessions
(1) Creative writing - Theme: “Interlinking Rivers is the only solution for water management”
(2) Poster Making - Theme: “Role of Global Cities in Climate Change”


Day 2 – Friday, 27th  November, 2009

10.00 a.m. - Lecture by Mr. Ashok Jaitly, Director, Water Resource Management, TERI

11.00 a.m. - Tea Break 

11.15 a.m. - Quiz

1.00 p.m. - Refreshments

1.30 p.m. - Film screening

2.30 p.m. - Prize distribution
