Mathematics for Management As it is well known all around the globe, the research work on different disciplines of Management like Finance, Marketing and MIS are requiring a considerable amount of Mathematical prerequisites. IIM Calcutta is the best place in the country to facilitate a much adored golden handshake between Mathematics and Management. Alongwith streamlined courses in Management, the fellow student takes a considerable number of courses in Mathematics and the minor area of his choice. Apart from a host of pure Mathematical courses like Linear Algebra, Measure Theory, Real and Complex Analysis, Functional Analysis, Topology, Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations, the curriculum also caters to a number of applied courses like Variational Methods and Control Theory, Applied Algebra, Generalized Functions, Graph Theory, Operations Research, Probability Theory, Computational Methods et cetera. The instructor to student ratio for the Fellowship Program in Mathematics for Management is probably the highest among all the doctoral programs offered in the nation. Apart from an array of highly qualified professors, the institute also encourages advanced courses in the discipline taken by visiting professors from Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta University and many other institutes who are experts in their respective domains. The institute library has a rich collection of books and journals that are easily accessable and readily available owing to the fact that a small fraction of the student community is selected to pursue for Mathematical Studies. Though roughly 0.2 percent of the students carry out their research work in Mathematics, about 10 percent of the books and 2 percent of the journals are related to Mathematics.
Operations Management The Operations Management Group courses cover three broad areas, viz. Mathematical and Statistical Techniques, Operations Research and Production Management.
