IIT JAM 2018 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who wish to apply for IIT - JAM 2018 should fulfill the following eligibility criteria for admissions in the IITs and IISc, Bangalore.

  • All nationals, Indian and Foreign can apply for IIT - JAM 2018.
  • IIT - JAM 2018 has no age bar.
  • If a candidate is applying to a specific program then he/she should qualify in the Test Paper and fulfill Minimum Educational Qualifications (MEQs) and Eligibility Requirements (ERs) of that program.
  • Candidates currently in the final year who have already appeared or are due to appear for the final examination are eligible for IIT - JAM 2018.
  • General & OBC candidates should have at least 55% aggregate marks, without rounding off, (taking into account all subjects, including languages and subsidiaries, for all years) and SC/ST and PD Category candidates must score at least 50% aggregate marks, without rounding off, (taking into account all subjects, including languages and subsidiaries, all years combined) in their qualifying degree.
  • If a candidate has letter grades/CGPA rather than percentage of marks, the equivalence in percentage of marks will be decided by the Admitting Institute(s).
  • Candidates should submit proof of having passed the qualifying degree with required eligibility, as specified by the admitting institute by 30 September, 2018.

Reservation of Seats

A certain number of seats are reserved for candidates belonging to various reserved categories, such as Scheduled Caste, Schedule Tribes, Other Backward Classes and Physically Disabled. These seats are offered according to Government rules and regulations.

The minimum educational qualification for admission into IITs and IISc, Bangalore for various Masters programmes offered is given below:

M.Sc. Applied Geology (IITB, IITR)/ Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D. in Geology (IITKgp)/ M.Tech. Geological Technology (IITR)/ M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree Programme in Applied Geology (IITB)/Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D. in Earth Science (IITBBS) Bachelor's degree with Geology for three years or six semesters and any two subjects in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Biological Sciences. The candidate must have Mathematics at (10+2) level.
M.Sc. Applied Geophysics (IITB)/ M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree Programme in Applied Geophysics (IITB) Bachelor's degree with Mathematics and Physics as subjects for two years and at least one as a subject for three years.
M.Sc. Applied Statistics and Informatics (IITB)/ M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree in Operations Research (IITB) Bachelor's degree with Mathematics or Statistics as a subject for a minimum of two years or four semesters.
M.Sc. Statistics (IITK) Bachelor's degree with Statistics for a minimum of two years/four semesters.
M.Sc. Biotechnology (IITB, IITR)/M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree in Biotechnology (IITB) Bachelor's degree in any branch of Science/Agriculture/Pharmacy/Veterinary/Engineering/ Medicine (MBBS). For IITB's M.Sc. Biotechnology and M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree in Biotechnology, candidates must have passed Mathematics at the (10+2) level.
M.Sc. Chemistry (IITB, IITD, IITGN, IITG, IITH, IITI, IITK, IITM, IITR)/ Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D. in Chemistry (IITBBS, IITKgp)/M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree Programme in Chemistry (IITB) Bachelor's degree with Chemistry for three years or six semesters and Mathematics at the (10+2) level.
M.Sc. Mathematics (IITB, IITD, IITGN, IITH, IITK, IITM)/ M.Sc. Mathematics and Computing (IITG)/ M.Sc. Applied Mathematics (IITR)/ M.Sc. Industrial Mathematics and Informatics (IITR)/Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D. Programme in Mathematics (IITBBS, IITKgp)/M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree in Operations Research Bachelor's degree with Mathematics for at least two years or four semesters.
M.Sc. Physics (IITB, IITD, IITG, IITH, IITI, IITK, IITM, IITR)/ Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D. in Physics (IITBBS, IITKgp)/ M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree in Physics (IITB, IITK)/M.Sc. Physics - M.Tech. Materials Sciences (IITB) Bachelor's degree with Physics for at least two years or four semesters and Mathematics for a minimum of one year or two semesters.
M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree in Energy (IITB) Bachelor's degree with either Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics for two years or four semesters, and any one of the remaining two subjects for at least one year or two semesters.
M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree in Environmental Science & Engineering (IITB) Bachelor's degree with one of the subjects Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics for two years or four Semesters, and any one of the other four subjects for at least one year or two semesters. Candidates should have Mathematics at the (10+2) level.
Integrated Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (IISc Bangalore) Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics. Candidates must have passed Biology at the (10+2) Higher Secondary level.
Integrated Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences (IISc Bangalore) Bachelor of Science or equivalent with Chemistry as a subject. Candidates should have passed Mathematics at the +2 or PUC level.
Integrated Ph.D. in Mathematical Sciences (IISc Bangalore) Bachelor's degree in engineering or science with mathematics for three years or six semesters.
Integrated Ph.D. in Physical Sciences (IISc Bangalore) Bachelor of Science or equivalent with Physics as a main subject.
