National Information Center of Earthquake Engineering (NICEE)

The National Information Center of Earthquake Engineering (NICEE) gathers information related to earthquake for the use of scientists and engineers and other professionals of this field. The Earthquake Engineering gained popularity after, January 26, 2001, Bhuj earthquake in Gujarat.

The NICEE works in close cooperation with national and international institutes for quake data mining and furnishes the same for research and development pursuits. These professionals work hard to minimize the post disaster scenario by structuring of quake proof buildings, bridges etc. For more details click here.

National Wind Tunnel Facility (NWTF)

The National Wind Tunnel Facility (NWTF) Center at IIT Kanpur takes up sponsored and consultancy projects as well as supports the academic research related to Wind Speed testing. The NWTF Center was established in 1999 to meet the needs in the areas of Aeronautical and non Aeronautical Engineering and R & D activities. The NWTF Center has various simulation and measurement systems besides interchangeable test sections. The center is capable of testing wind speed up to a limit 0.08 meter per second.For more details click here.

3-i Network

The 3-i network is the about, three institutions working together towards a common goal - Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and Infrastructure Development Finance Company Limited Mumbai.

The 3-I network strives at enhancing the existing intellectual capital working in infrastructure sector and establishing interaction between academia and industry. Its mission is to provide directives for policy making, managing and enhancing the infrastructure. The 3-i is a reservoir of technological and managerial issues related to Indian Economy. Distance Education Programme

with the objective of disseminating the benefits of academic excellence at IIT Kanpur the institute shares its expertise with fellow academic institutions across the country and abroad. Distance Education Program (DEP) is initiated towards this end.

The following initiatives have been taken under this scheme

• Courses in the area of Engineering and Biological Sciences delivered to the students of the State of Chhattisgarh using VSAT transmission.
• Indo-French Cyber University in the areas of emerging technologies (University Pierre et Marie curie , Paris is the Partner University)
• NPTEL (National Program on Technology Enhanced Learning) for developing high quality engineering courses using Video and Web-based learning material .To know more about this click here.
