Erstwhile Federation of Insurance Institutes established in 1955 is now Insurance Institute of India (III) for promoting insurance education in the country and to conduct insurance examination for award of certificates and license to work in insurance sector. The institute conducts insurance examination under three basic categories
  • Licentiate
  • Associateship
  • Fellowship
The Insurance Institute of India (III) also conducts examinations for
  • Inspectors
  • Certificate in Insurance Salesmanship
For insurance examination training Insurance Institute of India (III) conducts tuition classes both onsite and postal. The Insurance Institute of India (III) is the member institution of Institute of Global Insurance Education (IGIE).
 
The Insurance Institute of India (III) has provided affiliation to following foreign institutions:
  • The Sri Lanka Insurance Institute
  • The Sri Lanka Insurance Academy
  • The R.I.C.B. Insurance Institute, Bhutan
The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) and the General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC), New India Assurance, Oriental Insurance, National Insurance, and United Insurance are corporate members of The Insurance Institute of India (III).

The Governing Body of the Insurance Institute of India (III) is its Council made of Administration Committee and Board of Education. The Board of Education is supreme authority in all maters related to education and examination. Secretary General heads the Insurance Institute of India (III)

The Insurance Institute of India (III) has follow motives:
  • To run College and conduct examinations, oral and written, in insurance
  • To give on-site and postal coaching to candidates preparing for insurance examination.
  • To offer scholarships, grants and prizes for research in insurance
  • To ascertain the law and practice in all matters related to insurance.
  • To train eligible human resources in industry.
