The following are research Courses of Law

M.Phil in Law

About: An M.Phil in law is a thesis oriented research degree in law. It also acts as a gateway to a Ph.D.

Course Content: In universities like NALSAR, every candidate has teaching, research and seminar assignments depending on the approved plan of work.
The Teaching Assignments is ordinarily preparation of course content and study materials for under-graduate and post-graduate courses or for a  Certificate / Diploma Course or for a summer training workshop / seminar, taking regular or tutorial or group discussion classes in the under-graduate and post-graduate courses.
The Research Work includes attending courses on Research Methodology, identifying a major research subject and a specific research topic, conducting empirical study, if required. The Seminar assignments involve presentation on different topics.
  • Duration: 1 Year
  • Eligibility: An LL.M. Degree, with a minimum of 50% marks (55% for universities like NALSAR)

Ph.D in Law

About:  For the Ph.D, the candidate writes a major thesis and has to defend it.

Eligibility: A Master's Degree in any subject relevant to the field of research with a Bachelor's Degree in law; or
A Master's Degree in any subject relevant to the research with established research credentials by way of publications; or
A Master's Degree in any subject relevant to the research with long term in depth practical experience in the area to be researched; or
Passed the Company Secretaryship examination conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries in India and been awarded Associate Membership of the Institute (ACS); or
Passed the Chartered Accountants examination conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants and been awarded Membership of the Institute of Chartered Accounts; or
M.Phil Degree in the relevant subject with excellent academic background.

LL.D in Law

About:  For an LL.D., the candidate writes a major thesis and has to defend it
  • Duration: A minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 5 Years
  • Eligibility: Ph. D. Degree
