The Deptt. of Law, Calcutta University was initially started in January 1909 as University College of Law and later renamed as Dept. of Law in February 1983. Since its inception the department has been striving to offer quality legal education to Indian students for which it has been placed among the top 25 law schools in the country. The Department offers undergraduate and post graduate courses in Law. The research activities are also being actively pursued at the department with the following major thrust areas: - Criminal Law
