National Law University (NLU)




Introduction

National Law University (NLU), Jodhpur came into existence in 1999 by an act of Rajasthan State Legislature and it became fully functional in 2001. It is the first institution of its kind where study of Law is coupled with other disciplines such as Science, Management and Policy Sciences. For this purpose, the University has established five Schools of learning, i.e., School of Policy Science, School of Management, School of Science, School of Languages and School of Law. The purpose is to produce lawyers who can operate globally with a strong foundation in their respective areas of specialization.

The NLU is a fully residential university with adequate accommodation for all its students. The entire campus is provided with wireless connectivity. There are good laboratory facilities for students pursuing B.Sc.,LL.B.(Hons.) programme. Apart from undergraduate programs the NLU also offers few postgraduate programs. The admissions to postgraduate programs are decided by the university.

Courses & Eligibility


Undergraduate Program:  B.B.A., LL.B.(Hons.), B.Sc., LL.B.(Hons.) and B.A.,LL.B.(Hons.)

Eligibility: Apart from clearing the CLAT the candidates must have following eligibility criteria:

(i) He/she must have passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) or an examination equivalent thereof, securing in aggregate not less than 50% in all the core subjects and English put together.

(ii) He/she must not have completed 20 years of age as of 1st July, 2008 .
In the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST category, the age limit will be 22 years as on 1st July, 2008.

All those who have appeared in the qualifying examinations are entitled to write the Admission Test. But any candidate securing less than 50% in the qualifying examination will be denied admission notwithstanding his/her rank in the Admission Test.

Intake Capacity: The intake capacity of all the three undergraduate degree program (B.B.A., LL.B. (Hons), B.Sc., LL.B. (Hons), B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) put together, shall be Ninety (90). Students shall be allotted their choice of course stream as per their preferences.

The break up of the intake capacity is as under:

General – 69

SC – 14 (i.e. 15%)

ST – 7 (i.e.7.5%)

3% seats in each category are reserved for physically challenged students.

Post Graduate Programs:

The National Law University, Jodhpur, Rajasthan offers different Postgraduate courses as mentioned below:

  1. Post Graduate Degree Program in Constitutional Governance
  2. Post Graduate Degree Program in Intellectual Property Law
  3. Post Graduate Degree Program in Management and Law
  4. Post Graduate Degree Program in Insurance Studies (M.B.A. in Insurance)
  5. Post Graduate Degree Program in Trade Related Laws and WTO
Note: For admission to postgraduate programs the university has set separate guidelines.

Course Pattern


The National Law University Jodhpur follows semester system under which an academic year is divided into two parts and five or six subjects are taught in each semester.  

The varsity offers following Honors Programs in following disciplines in Law:

a) Corporate Governance
b) Intellectual Property Law
c) Trade Related Laws & WTO
d) Criminal Law
e) Constitutional Governance
f) Human Rights

In every Honors Program, there shall be five papers and a dissertation.
