TISS, Mumbai offers a variety of post graduate programmes that orients students to different social aspects like health and hospital administration, disaster management, social work, and elementary education in the Indian context.
TISS 2012 Post Graduate Master's Programs
- Master of Health Administration & Master of Hospital Administration
This programme aims to develop professional managers in the health sector. This programme is offered by the School of Health Systems Studies. The programme orients the students to issues relevant to health policy and programming in the country and imparts training in planning, operational and project management of hospitals including orientation in the managerial aspects of clinical and support services departments.Training in managing financial, material and human resources as well as planning and managing information systems is also provided to the students.
This programme explores the link between social environment and health of the population along with strong methodological and technical foundation in epidemiology, biostatistics, quantitative analysis, and national and international public health policies.
- M.A. in Globalization and Labour
The aim of this programme is to equip people engaged in mass-based organisations such as trade unions, cooperatives and other membership-based organisations with adequate knowledge at the theoretical, conceptual and empirical levels so that they can work towards altering the processes to work for the workers in the unorganised sector.
- M.A. in Human Resources Management and Labour Relations
The M.A. in Human Resources Management and Labour Relations (HRM & LR), programme (formerly known as M.A. in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations), offered by the School of Management and Labour Studies, is designed to develop students into professional managers ready to take on the challenges of the corporate world.
- M.A. in Social Entrepreneurship
This is a two year programme where students are trained to take up professional positions in international and national government or non-governmental organisations. The course covers an overview of the business, finance, economics, society, ethics,leadership development, innovation, entrepreneurship, profit making and non-profit making organisations and their structures, decision making and management, linkages with stakeholders and development of business plans for the non-profit sectors.
- MA in Development Studies
This programme will equip students in developing critical perspectives in examining development and its consequences for the community and the individual; the natural and social environment; and socio-cultural institutions.
- M.A. in Education (Elementary)
Students of this programme develop a critical and reflective understanding of the core and foundational areas of education, including theory and research, with special reference to India.
- M.A. in Disability Studies and Action
This is a two year programme which equips students with a range of competencies to work with all groups of persons with disability and other stakeholders in social work and allied fields, at the practice, training, policy and advocacy levels.
Students of this programme are equipped with a range of competencies to work in the field of social work, social welfare and social development.
- M.A. in Media and Cultural Studies
This is a two year programme is aimed at honing skills of media production and research within a framework that enables the development of a critical perspective on media, culture and society.
- M.A./M.SC. in Disaster Management:
The Master's programme in Disaster Management, offered by the Jamsetji Tata Centre for Disaster Management, aims at enhancing knowledge, capacities and skills, and perspective on disasters. Though aimed at mid-career professionals even fresh graduates can enroll in this course.
