OMAT stands for Orissa Management Aptitude Test.OMAT is state level entrance examination for admission into management programs in universities and institutes in Orissa.
The Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Rourkela, Orissa is competent authority designated by the Orissa Government for OMAT administration.
Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Rourkela has been established by an Act of the Assembly, Government of Orissa in June 2002. Today, the University has 110 colleges, both constituent and affiliated, with around 58,000 students.
All Engineering, Pharmacy, Architecture and most of the colleges are offering MCA and MBA degree programs are either constituent or affiliated colleges of this University.
Several of these Colleges/Institutes offer both undergraduate and post graduate courses. Admissions to all Courses are done through Central Counseling on the basis of merit list prepared by Central Admission Committee set up by Directorate of Technical Education and Training (DTE&T), Orissa.
Admission to all management courses are done through OMAT Exam, which is conducted by BPUT.The BPUT announces OMAT notification, conducts OMAT Exam, administer counseling for qualified candidates in OMAT and allocate seats to candidates in management programs offered by different university departments and institutes in Orissa.
OMAT is one paper one-day examination. The exam lasts for two hours, 120 Multiple Choice Type Questions are asked. Each correct answer receives 4 marks while each wrong answer penalizes by – 1 mark.
OMAT is competitive examination; candidates appearing in OMAT are advised not to answer questions on the basis of guess. For unattempted questions no marks awarded are deducted.
Candidates are also advised to read instructions given in the question booklet and listen to exam administrator carefully.
OMAT is offered once in a year, generally in the month of May. Graduate students of any discipline can write OMAT examination for admission into MBA and related programs offered through different universities and institutes in Orissa.
Those in the final year of graduation can also write OMAT examination. The Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Rourkela, Orissa issues detailed notification for administration of OMAT every year.
