Product management deals with the management of manufactured goods within a company beginning with its planning to marketing of finished goods at every step during the entire process of making it. Product management is actually a kind of specialization.

After the successful completion of the course- product management, candidate will join as product manager who will be responsible for brand promotions, advertising, sales promotion activities, rates negotiation for advertisements, brand packaging & printing and with media people.

 The principal task of a product manager lies primarily on managing its existing product portfolio. However, as a means to growth, they are also involved in transformation or deletion of some existing products and timely introduction of new products. In other words, Product Management function has assumed a challenging task for any vendor. Depending upon the size and past of the organization, product management offers a varied array of positions and careers.

Career Prospects:-

Product Manager, the profile  has many promising combinations. As a product manager you could be working in a business to end user company focused on brand management and development. On the other hand, you might find yourself in a business-to-business setting where the name of the game is to cultivate a smaller group of customers very well. The "manufactured goods", of course, can be anything. Product managers can finds jobs in various fields such as High Tech, Food and Restaurants and Consumer Electronics.

Product managers usually earn high salaries because of their level of education and extensive experience. Product management positions are difficult to acquire not only because of extensive requirements, but also because it is considered a “fast track” career. The amount of products that bring in significant revenue determines the number of product managers needed.

At present there are no major institutes offering courses in production management. But Indian Institue of management- Calcutta is offering  a short -term course ideal for managers.
